Hello Members.

I'm a 46 year old guy from Melbourne, Australia. 20 years ago I would have felt much more at home here, but these days I feel like I’m leaving my run a bit late. Finally decided to join after a few months of lurking.

Just saying Hi, but here’s a bit of back ground for anyone interested…

Back in the late 80’s I trained solid for 4 years at a well known bodybuilding gym in Melbourne. I was 72kgs when I started training, got to about 87kgs and hit a plateau. After several months of persistence I tried some mild dosages of Deca and then hit a lean 93kgs within about 9 months.

Then I got a professional job (I’d finished Uni and was 22YO) and had to scale back my training and nutritional habits because of work. About 3 weeks after that, my chemist got arrested and I didn’t want to risk my career by hunting around for a new source. My priorities had changed and my bodybuilding lifestyle seemed untenable. I stopped training.

21 months ago, after not touching a weight for 23 years, I started going to the gym to help my fitness for another sport. Suddenly I felt like I was 22 again and I got hooked. My current lifestyle is now such that I can train and eat as I want and I am enjoying training like never before and have given the other sport away because I was getting injured from it anyway. My routine has now morphed from a more fitness orientated program into that of a complete bodybuilding focus.

I train early mornings, started at 77kgs 21 months ago and I am now 84kgs. Skinfold calliper test tells me I am currently 16% body fat, which is 3% more than what I was when I stopped training at 22, but 4% less than what I was when I started training again 21 months ago.

I started back on a whole body routine for 6 months then went to a two way spilt routine for another 8 months and now I have been on a 3 way split routine since March. I train three days on and one day off, so it’s an eight day cycle because I find my recovery isn’t good enough to get the full training cycle in twice every seven days.

Currently I train Biceps > Back > Calves on day one, then Shoulders > Chest > Triceps > Forearms on day two, and Upper Legs > Calves on day three.

Interestingly, I’ve found my gains have been much better than they were when I was in my early 20’s. I put this down to three things:
1. Muscle memory
2. Slower metabolism
3. Knowing my body better.

My current goal is to get back to a fairly lean 87kgs without the use of any medicinal assistance and then decide what to do from there, but I guess ultimately I would like to get back to where I was 24 years ago…93kgs, 13% body fat. But like I said, maybe I have left my run a bit late.

Anyway, that’s me. G’Day everyone.
