    Carbs and sugar

Hello all. I've been using Myfitnesspal to help me track my caloric intake and macros and I noticed something interesting

I'm curious about the sugar aspect of carbs and after some reading I gathered that sugar spikes blood sugar which promotes the release of insulin which is anabolic therefore promoting muscle growth but stalling fat loss. Whats interesting about this is that Myfitnesspal automatically sets my sugar limit to 60% of my carb intake which is astonishing since it halts fat loss and the idea behind me counting cals strictly and fitting my macros is to lose body fat.

Therefore that being said, I am still very misinformed about the subject and am not sure weather I should adopt a moderate amounts of sugars in my diet, or stick to my low GI carbs. I mean, if insulin is anabolic, surely the best time to spike it would be post workout which would mean building muscle and losing fat would be possible in a caloric deficit.

Would love for this to be cleared up

    Thanks in advance

It's not enough of a spike to make a dramatic difference post workout, but yes that is the theory behind the whole anabolic window etc. Sugar isn't a necessity in your diet and it should be moderated. I try to keep it under 100g a day, mostly from sources like fruit/honey with oatmeal etc

the problem with "my fitness pal" is that you don't get to see the underlying algorithms and therefore you become a puppet

Then what app would you recommend to count my values?
