Thoughts on Prosate cancer and Test

I've been doing allot of reading on prostate cancer and test and now it seems like what I read is that testosterone does not feed prostate cancer. I can't seem to get a solid answer on this. Does anyone know of any studies that have been done to prove this? What about someone that had PC and had the prostate removed? Is test safe after that?

I've been on TRT for years. I was diagnosed with PC a few months back and had my prostate removed 6 weeks ago. My cancer was contained within the prostate. My Uro told me that after some time that I could get back on TRT if my PSA stays in the zero range. Before I had the surgery, I had consultation with another Uro and told him of my diagnosis and that I got off of the TRT when I found out and he said that I didn't have to get off. So I am very confused on the subject.

I want to get back on TRT when my Uro gives me the green light, but I also don't want my cancer to come back.

I believe that there is a perception in the medical community that there remains a link between testosterone and prostate cancer. I will look for some specific sources to reference but from your post I think you are correct to consider very carefully if you want to be on TRT with a prior case of prostate cancer.

Essentially you will have to weigh your quality of life with or without TRT, against the risk of further problems with the prostate cancer. Then again, avoiding TRT is no guarantee you wont have another episode of cancer.

My father had prostate cancer, and had his surgically removed, he died from a heart attack years later and never had another incident of prostate cancer. SO I pay attention to these things since I have a family history.

How was your surgery? any difficulty with erection/sex?? or any problems urinating overall how was it?

The surgery went very well. I was caught early with PC and didn't mess around. I just wanted it out. Once it was out, they were able to see that the cancer was contained in the prostate. Right now I am working on the incontinence problem. It hasn't been that bad. I am about 85% continent already. The sex thing, well, I'm not going there just yet, but I have noticed some morning movement down there. I want to get past the incontinence issue first. I did start working out again today after 6 weeks of being off. It felt good, but I lost some strength. I'm sure I'll get it back in no time, but now that I have been off the TRT for about 3 months, that's not helping.

    Thanks for asking.

I predict that going off TRT will be a huge challenge, testosterone for me and I think everyone else has a very significant impact on far more areas than just muscle mass. Mental health, and your motivation and drive to train are all affected.

Lets just say hypothetically- randomly make up a number- say TRT patients are **% more likely to have another episode of prostate cancer than non-TRT patients. I would have to consider that risk against the idea that if I avoid TRT entirely I could still have cancer again- while living without the benefits of TRT.

Or the idea as well, that if you were on TRT and you did have another cancer diagnosis, could you be in a stronger position of health and therefore in a better position to go through the difficulty of cancer treatment? just a thought.

Personally I would be willing to accept some risk in order to stay on TRT- so if you do establish there is documented cause & effect between testosterone and prostate CA you will then have more information to make that decision.

    Thanks. I am 49.

To your point, it hit is a crap shoot. I could stay off of TRT and the cancer could still come back, then again (hopefully) it will never come back. I do know that when I had a consult with another Uro, he really didn't think I needed to get off of the TRT. I have a follow up mid January with my Uro that did the surgery and will have PSA test done prior to the followup. I just really want to get back on. I had so much energy and a great frame of mind when I was on. Now I just don't feel motivated. Even at TRT levels of test, at least I knew my body had test to help with the muscle building. Without it, my T's are low so I'll probably not make much progress or possibly go backwards.

Thanks for the links. That is some good information. It makes sense to me. As you get older, your T levels start to drop but it seems like the chances of prostate cancer increases. That is what had me questioning the thought process with TRT and PC. I don't know for sure, but I don't think there is any correlation between Test raising your chances of getting PC or even feeding the cancer cells.

I was a juror on a court case that involved prostrate cancer and the gentlemen was on trt. Both the plaintiff and defendant brought in expert testimony from leaders in the field. Most of them were heads of leading schools ( John Hopkins comes to mind) in the endo dept. They discussed in depth about PSA, the number they assign your cancer in terms of the likelihood of it reappearing and trt. Not one of the specialist believed that the gentlemens prostrate cancer was caused from trt or believed there was a correlation.

This is encouraging and reinforces what I have been reading. Now the next thought, if I do decide to ever run a cycle again, any product I should stay clear of?
