The EMD surely would've told the guy to check for a pulse, which in my state you do every two minutes as the AED assess the rhythm. That would've been the first thing the EMD would've told the guy to do.
I know everyone makes mistakes, the EMD probably didn't mess that up. I've been in the medical field for years and have never seems wrongful CPR. However, that's not to say it couldn't happen.
I think the most likely scenario if it truly wasn't just beast mode syncope (new medical diagnosis, ill publish it in a few days) then the guy probably watched too many movies and checked for a pulse in the wrong place and couldn't find it.
