Now you came in here thinking of one type of beaver I have a question about real beaver dams. My dad who is 73 has two beaver dams on his property. The beavers have been "relocated" but he is not sure how to get rid of the dams. I suggested tannerite.

He went to the store and purchased a few packs thinking not knowing much about 1 tannerite nor how good beavers are at building. Sorry now pics of the dam. He is old school and would have to get his film developed to show me a pic of the dams.

So how much tannerite do you think would blow up a medium size beaver dam? I have watched the youtube videos but I am thinking since he has the money and I have a go pro then we should use a lot of it. So what is the minimum and maximum you guys would suggest?

Yeah I know, I thought about that but I have seen these guys still go backlist over something like this. They will claim its a home for other wildlife. Just make sure you have everything signed off and approved.

ive used 1lb to blow up a 24" tube tv. A beaver damn isnt as enclosed and a lot of energy would escape. i would say use at least 5 lbs. Remember to mix it into a larger container and use .223 and up. If money isnt an issue why not do 10 or 20?

Im not sure if youve used tannerite before but make sure its mixed really well with the catalyst, be very thorough or some of it will not detonate

tannerite is pretty loud, especially a few pounds of it.

The most I have used at one time was 25lbs. And I doubt that would do anything significant to a beaver dam. Tannerite is not a fast burn like tnt. It is more of a slow push. The effectiveness of the movement is directly related to the direction of the blast.

For example: If you took a pound and suspended it above the ground by several feet the force would be directed in many directions and not very effective at tearing anything up. The same charge detonated on the ground will do more damage because the ground will direct the same blast in half of the directions. Make sense?

With that said..Don't plan on just placing a charge in the middle of the dam and expect great results.
And: a beaver dam on the surface looks like a small structure. But the lower parts of the dam are immense.

You were saying something about dynamite in Montana? How is it purchased? Do they require you to account for its use? Are you allowed to keep it on hand? Would you be interested in parting with some?

In my area it requires a federal blasting license to purchase and every ounce must be accounted for. Not real easy to obtain for "ranch" use.

About the only thing I can offer is I've seen 2 backhoes spend all day trying to tear down a beaver dam that was inside city limits. Beavers are remarkable engineers.

Okay two beaver dams to get rid of. One we are going to do due 30 lbs with 4 gals of diesel and the other is 20 lbs with 2.5 gals of diesel. Hope to do it this weekend if the weather holds out. 2 state troopers are going to be "helping" with this test . . . AKA we are going a "turkey" shoot type of fun. We also are going to have a nice BBQ and some confiscated moonshine.....I hope to have a go pro video to post soon. My son thinks he can get rid of all the faces.

Well as a trapper I can tell you they are built very good.Now in some places it is against the law to mess with Beaver dams.So I would check that out 1st.But I have seen guys do it by hand with a tool that looks like a pitchfork.But with the tines bent down.Also seen this done on you tube vids.But in the end the Beavers will be back.This is a never ending job.Good luck!
