    Gym partner rant

So I decided to go gym with my cousins.

    They said 5x a week @ 6am.
Showed up 3x and now refuse to come because its too early. They set the time as well, not me.

    Back to solo lifting

    End rant.

It's better to just go on your own. Training partners come and go. Few people have the guts and discipline to go there and kick their own asses on a regular basis. They might string a few months here and there together, but very few will ever stick with it. Part of me thinks we're kind of messed up in the head that we're willing to torture ourselves for the sake of getting bigger and/or stronger.

Yet to find one. Much rather be solo anyhow. It would be nice on the other hand to just have some side kick ready to spot you at any given time!

I personally would much rather lift by myself anyways. There's always someone admiring themselves in the mirror if you need a spot.

I've always trained alone. If I need a spot, I just grab someone.

I train at 5am and love it. It takes me a few min to wake up (430am) and get fired up, but once I do, it's on. I have had a good training partner once, it was great, but I do prefer to train alone. I could never train during the day when the gym is full of douche bags, I am too old and intolerant, I would end up hurting someone. When I am in the gym I need my space and access to equipment when I need it. There is a solid morning crew at my gym now so I can get a spot when needed.

IMO Partners are nothing but a vulnerability. Another reason your plans may change beyond your control.

I enjoy lifting in a gym from time to time. But ultimately lifting has become something very private for me. I hate when people see me strain, and the whole point of lifting is to do just that.

I've always purposely hid my weakness and pain, openly displaying it is very challenging for me. It does however push me to lift harder when I'm in public.

There's no better taste than NO2 Explode at 5AM.

I then lay back down and come 5:30, there's no way sleeping is an option. When I don't work out in the morning I'm tired and crabby all day.

Now if I didn't work out at home, I could never do this. I could never miss the mornings with my family

He went from 195 to 199 pounds with all the fat going to his neck. And everytime I ask him when he'll do squats, he'd say, "Alright! Alright! I'll do them soon! Jeez!"
Story of every gym partner I've had right there. Refuses to do leg day, never wears shorts because he is 'self conscious' about his legs. If only he would work them out then maybe, just maybe, he might develop a calf.

I like lifting alone; I've only had one partner be able to keep up and actually commit to leg day. I'll get other guys who want to lift with me from work or whatever, and I purposely invite them on leg day just so they won't ask again. I know it's mean, but fack... Just because I'm a big guy doesn't mean I'll make you a diet and be your training buddy.

i had a partner when i started seriously (20 years ago). it was a good experience then. now, i go solo because the logistics of having a partner are too hard. (i hate waiting when i walk in the gym door).

instead, i've used a weight caddy (when i had my hip replacement for example). i get people to move the weights around for me, then i lift. kind of fun... (tips not required)

I prefer going early in the AM. around 2am lately. For me, there is maybe one or two people there. Which means the air isn't all stuffy and I can actually use the equipment without losing my pump waiting.

I know it sucks big time. 5am you still have a bunch of twits in there. I like 2am or 3am better when I had the gym all to myself but they closed the one at my work.

This is why I lift alone at home. It's my sweat and my blood and I rarely have to wait on me to get out of my way.
There are 3 loves in my life: my wife, my English mastiffs, and my weightlifting....Man, my wife gets really pissed when I get the 3 confused...

Why do some people even bother going to the gym? I mean some people (not young kids) it just a waste of time. How can they think they are doing ANYTHING.

Yeah we all see the people who have terrible form, throwing their back out curling and all that but like today a guy in his early 40s, maybe a little younger is using the seated preacher bench curl machine and pulls the bar up 90 deg, then proceeds to lift off the seat a good 1ft never leaving the 90 deg and then sitting. How can anyone think they are doing anything?

    Memorial Day I saw:

    1. Dude sitting on preacher bench backwards curling.
    2. Curling (half reps) in the squat rack.
    3. Eating on the leg extension.
    4. Reading people magazine on the leg press.
    5. Every dude within 40 miles thinking that today is chest day.

    I hate holidays.

My partner is a college age son of a good friend of mine....

He wants to bulk, but so hard for him... getting stronger though, that's always a plus..

I'm up to 6x week.. throwing in 3-4x cardion in addition to resistance training.. drives him crazy when i text him and he bails on me... I always say "Cool... i need all the extra time to keep ahead of him.."

Yesterday this guy comes in. Starts doing these crazy arm stretches for about 15 min. Sits down on the leg curl machine and messes around with his phone for 30 min then leaves lol

    Ha! this is very true.

There is this older bloke mid to late 50s, he comes in the gym every thursday and friday a.m. He must of just started working out and looks like some form of cross fiter.......he skips fast as he can, ab machine, pull up station (to do quarter pull ups at light speed) to some form of super fast mountain climbers...about 3 sets of this. He then hits the squat rack for what can only be described as some sort of bum wiggle 1/10th squat! It bothers me that he is wasting his time, poor bloke..........though props to him for getting to gym in the first place.

Ha....got to love the random warm up! It just seems like the thing to do, most people do the arm swing as the warm up...........its a bit like kicking the tyres of a car when you go to view! pointless but just needs to be done...

I lifted with my brother yesterday. He was going like halfways down with his bench reps and going at lightning speed through the reps. I was like "you know none of those counted, right?"

Partners come and go they change like the weather. I think most have good intentions life is busy and gets in the way alot. Its something that takes dedication and you got to want it. My son is 15 now and we work out 5x pw its getting better everyday he is going to be a big guy someday. We are getting him ready for football camp at U of M Harbaugh is having a camp there. My son is 6'0 and 190lbs right now at 15yrs old and he was a late bloomer so I hope with lifting and teaching him proper diet he will excel. Not really a rant I guess.
