    jumping too my tdee?

Okay guy I have a question that I'm seeming to battle in my head.

After bodybuilding show calories 3500-4000 (not clean) for about two months. started putting on fat fast so I said to myself let's get back on track.

So for 5 weeks I was at 2920 calories 40/40/20 started getting leaner.

Then I said to myself well let me push it a little more so I dropped it to 2700 calories same split two weeks ago. I have really leaned up

But I did my tdee a couple of days ago and it was 3966. Now my question is will I put on fat if I just up to that number? Or will it help me maintain my weight and bf%?

My nutritionist friend tells me that men should always shoot for 6-10 lbs below their target weight-loss goal, because that's how much water-weight the average man gains after returning to maintenance. Apparently, when you're in a fat-burning state, you maintain a slight level of dehydration, regardless of how much h2o you're throwing back. So, if five days after returning to maintenance, you find that you're 5,8,10 lbs heavier, don't shit your shorts; it's probs just water. That said, that water-weight will steal some of your definition.

But, in theory, your TDEE should hold your lean weight and BF constant.

Wow great insight to that! Never really thought about that.. Ur right on would sh*t my pants if I did see that number jump like that lmfao!! Good call..

So in the general gist of things I can just jump my calories back up to maintenance without an issue besides water weight?

I think you *can* start consuming maintenance calories without issues (besides water weight). As you know, the calculated TDEE is just an approximation and might need to be tweaked.

Did I read in another thread that you were a fat kid (I was, too)? If so, you might have a greater propensity to gain fat than others. I saw this interesting case study of identical twins: one was a dedicated athlete, the other was a dedicated player of video games. The athlete got fit young and stayed fit his whole life. The gamer carried around 20-40 extra pounds of fat his whole life. At 40, the gamer decided to get fit and, with the help of his brother, he did. Only, in order to stay lean, he had to consumer 20% fewer calories than his brother who grew up fit (they both had identical levels of activity every day during the study). I'm not recommending you try to maintain at 20% below your TDEE; but, if you've ever noticed that you need to eat less than what you've calculated to avoid packing on the fat, that could be why.

Wow very interesting stuff. Thanks a lot brother is is very helpful info. U really help my understand a little more about nutrition and how to body works.
BTW yes I was a fat kid so I know that my body will store fat much easier then most but I will start my calories right at this 3960 mark and take my measurements before hand and pictures and watch the scale. Like u had said in a past comment to sh*t my pants over 6-8lbs because most likely its going to be water. Thank you very much for ur help and insight

Yes you'll be fine to jump to maintenance or a little above but as bloodchoke pointed out you'll regain a whole lot of intramuscular glycogen stealing a little definition but also bringing a 'fuller' look.

Ideally you'd add 200-300 or so calories every 5-7 days to get a gist of where your maintenance actually is.
