    WPI converting to sugar?

    Have one of the biggest roid munchers at gym overseeing what i eat ect, He has qualifications flying out his bung hole. Anyway he told me that a protein shake first thing in the morning is no good and it willl just turn to sugar.... in saying that i do understand everything is eventually turned into blood sugar but im sure thats not what hes saying.

    Any knowledgeable members have anything to say on this? Can we all confirm this is in fact bullshit or is there some actually some truth to this

    This is just more evidence that qualifications mean nothing. By the same logic we should never drink protein cause it's just sugar anyway?

    After sleeping is when we're going to be the most fasted from amino acids (protein) so it should be one of the first things you reach for.

    Amino acids will be used as energy deep into a starved state (aka dieting) not just for the hell of it. The first thing that'll be used are available carbs and glycogen for energy then fat stores followed by amino acids much further down the track.

    Maybe what he meant to say is whey shakes are quick digesting vs protein/food.

    I agree. Breakfast is literally to the word, it is when you break the fast of sleeping. This is prime time to refuel your body from the long hours spent without fuel. Any carbs in the protein shake will be quickly turned to available glucose for immediate use because your body is coming off a hard fast, but the proteins aren't going to magically transform into glucose. This is especially so if you are recovering from a workout the day prior. Your body spent the entire night growing, and you need to replace the protein stores so it can continue to do so.

    This is also why complex carbs make up an important part of a breakfast, your body needs the fuel to reignite your metabolism for the day.

    I only reallyeat carbs around my workouts in the mid afternoon. Mornings and nights are just protein and fats
