In a previous post I talked about how my body has fluctuated between 220 and 300lbs over the last couple years. I was a D1 heavyweight wrestler and grew up loving the idea that if I ate as much as possible I would get freaky strong as long as I kept lifting weights. And this was true! But when the idea occurred to me to try and keep my strength and get as lean as possible I faced some pretty crazy obstacles on the way down! I started at about 300 going into D1 athletics and naturally got to about 255-270. After one season I decided to see how lean I could really get! I ended up at 220lbs and 6% body fat but not without fighting a lot of hard habits I had built from making my self into a whopping 300lber years prior...

Binge eating is a survival instinct. When your body feels like it is starving or when your mind tricks your body into believing it is starving you might get the compulsion to binge. Bingeing is also triggered by emotional stimuli which can be very hard when paired with a weight cut because not only are you hungry when cutting weight but you are also much more irritable. On my way down to 220lbs I went through multiple phases! Sometimes I could be a clean eater and stay in my clalorie deficit for a month but there were distinct phases where I would get caught in a binging cycle.... A binging cycle occurs when you eat a ridiculous amount in one sitting and then try to compensate by eating less and less and less which in turns leads to you being so hungry that you binge again. I was still losing weight doing this but I was killing my metabolism!!!...

So, my advice on how to avoid that. Up your calories and prepare for a longer cut! The healthiest way to lose weight is over a long period of time. If you are so hungry and so distressed from how much weight you are losing that you have to binge then it would be healthier just to up your daily calories slightly to try and avoid it! Other tactics I used were high volume but low calorie foods! Those are foods that are very high in water that make you feel full.
