Spending the holidays with the "in-laws"

To the guys who have, or have had a wife or girlfriend, at what point did you start spending the holidays with her family? From what ive seen with other familys and even my own, its always the guy who is ripped away from his family so he can go to the womans family for holidays lol. My girlfriend and I have been dating over 6 years now.. it hasnt all been easy but I feel like she will be the one I end up marrying one day. We dont live together yet but are currently in the process of buying a house together. For the holidays we have always just done things with our own families but this year I feel maybe its time I go be with her and her family for Christmas. The thing that sucks is they go to her moms side of the family for christmas which is a couple hours away so they end up spending a couple days up there. Plus, a lot of my own family comes into town and I would be missing that. But again, I feel maybe its time. What do you guys think? How do you handle the holidays with your significant other? And if you spend the holidays with her family how do you deal with it? I was thinking Jack Daniels haha.

I certainly am unfamiliar with any trend/reality of guys being ripped away from family...? I wouldn't wish to suffer through a holiday w/ the six yr gf & folks either. How about go when you have a mission to ask the father for her hand in marriage (or bail asap, lol)? Gl!

73rr- my cousin is newly married and that's what him and his wife do... Every other holiday. I would feel bad taking her away from her family though... Like I said pretty much every guy I know spends all holidays with their woman's family so I feel like it's something as a man I just have to do.

Vette- almost every guy I know gets stuck doing this lol but now that I think about it it may be because his family lives far away or maybe because both families live near by they are able to do both.

Haz that is the truth... The house we are looking to buy is way more her style than mine... I do like making her happy but seems like every time I do a little piece of me dies inside haha

    I second this!

I've spent every Christmas at my wife's parents place. Her family has always been very close, mine not so much.
I have no problems with the way we do it.
We make a yearly trip to see mine during the summer months. We do Christmas at her folks place.

Wife's fam is close so no issues but I would imagine we'd alternate holidays. My wife travels with me during the holidays without issue. She loves it.

Going to the in-laws for a day cant be that bad.
My wife and I have a large house and live in the middle of relatives from both sides so we end up having every holiday at our house so I normally have relatives at our house for at least three days.

Perfect time to travel! The farther away the better. I have been celebrating the season with my different groups of friends for the past few weeks and then I disappear. Literally. Click image for larger version.

Xmas morning we do our gifts at the house.

Drive 30 mins south to her parents for brunch and gifts.

Then after that 30 mins further south to my parents for dinner and gifts.

    Then hour drive home.

Works out pretty well. My parents don't mind what time we spend there. And usually other family from GA is traveling and doesn't arrive until 5ish so works out perfect for us
