In the UK here, a friend of mine opened a gym and used StarTrac. By contacting them direct they lifted the whole gym, lots of freebies and branded all the seat covers etc. If I recall he bought Dumbbells 2kg-70kg and they gave him 72kg-90kg for free. (2kg increments!)Originally Posted by Hazard

I never purchased online. But you might want to email a few wholesale dealers and see if they can set you up with an account so you're not paying retail prices.
What kind of equipment are you looking for? Like loose stuff or all-in-one type equipment?

Here's my situation......
I know fitness. I'm tired of working for the man and I want to do what I love. My fiancé is supportive and my sister wants to go in business with me.
I have a decent amount of equipment, bars, plates, and dumbells. I would just need maybe like a power rack and a few other things.
My area is so expensive though. Having to pay $2500-$3000 rent isn't feasible on top of having to pay insurance and utilities. A friend of mine has a studio already and is doing well. He wants me to use his studio for a fee. I'm thinking of doing it..... Maybe bring my equipment to his studio and get a discount on that fee.
This is something I need to do..... Unless I hit the lottery.

I think that's awesome, Haz. I, too, have always had a dream in the back of my head of starting my own gym. Sorry, I can't help you out with your question, but I'm interested in seeing how this turns out for you. And I hope to also see you succeed in doing so. Who knows, if it works out well for you, I may be hitting you up in the future for some pointers!

One word of advice from doing something similar. No matter how close you two are, I would not partner with family. Business is business, if something happened you two may end up on the outs. I personally would try to do it alone if possible or find a silent investor willing to put up some funds but leave the gym side to you.
I know there are a few companies who refurbish and sell hammer strength equipment a lot cheaper than new and are brought up to new equipment specs. I'll try and find one.

Haz, I wish u opened a gym by me! Haha, all I got is a bunch of branch gyms xsport and planet fitness. Horrible to say xsport is the only way to go and could us a new change of scenery.
