    Minimum 1tbsp per day.

Usually in my breakfast which is peanut butter, whey, flaxseed, mashed dates including skin. Sometimes psyllium husk but it dries it out too much. I'm going to try small bars next time no dates (they harden the bar too) but more psyllium to make for lower carbs cutting diet bars.

I make bread with ground flaxseed too... On white flour it reduces the GI plus adds all the other good stuff like fiber and ALA and tastes better than dark flour, only 4-8% of the ALA is lost during heating. Good for other baked stuff too...

We were just talkin about this cous- im gonna be following your recipe and gettin those bars made up. The wife has always been a fan of flaxseed and a few other things i just thought were bullshit. But ive been taking a little time to actually look into some things and finding pretty good info

What are the benefits and sides? I used to mix them with pureed apple and spread thin and baking or putting in dehydrator to make a cracker-y crisp type thing since I don't love grains.

Benefits: way too many to type up Flaxseeds in short, Omega 3s ALA, fiber (lignans+mucilage), antioxidants, anti inflammatory. So you get cardiovascular improvements, blood sugar/insulin sensitivity improvement, and the benefits of the antioxidants/antiinflammatories.

Sides: they contain some natural poison so excessive amounts can be bad, but you don't need that much anyway 2tbsp ground is just fine.

I thought the Omega 3s in flax had very low bioavailability, especially in comparison to fish, etc. Has that been disproved?

The ALA is absorbed especially from flaxseed oil. It doesn't convert to EPA and DHA but ALA has in itself cardiovascular benefits. This text summarizes it https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2989356

From what I have read is that the plant based PUFAs are beneficial in a different way compared to that from fish. So taking both would be a win win.

Im guessing you get your flaxseed already ground. Any idea on easy way to ground regular flaxseed? The wife uses flaxseed alot in her diet so i have a decent amount already, would rather just use it if theres an easy way to ground it.

Make sure you grind it yourself (coffee grounder works great), as the good fats inside will get oxidised fast in contact with air.

Dont eat whole flax seeds as our stomach and gut is not strong enough to break it through.
