How do you weigh your food?

I have always weighed meats after cooking, because that is what is left and what I am going to consume. With pasta's or carbs where you add water I weigh before as the added weight is just water weight.

I just stumbled upon something and I have seen an argument for weighing protein before? have you seen how much that shit can shrink.... makes no sense to me

I've only ever weight protein cooked. As you're suggesting, much of the water/fat/whatever renders out as you cook.

As long as you're doing everything consistently, over time it won't matter much.

I'm going to continue the same as I always have

It's just interesting that the two responses are opposite

    Protein, cooked.
It's worth noting that nutritional information is available for both cooked and uncooked. Use the correct information and it shouldn't matter.

I step on a scale before I eat.
Then I eat a buncha stuff and reweigh.

I try not to use the bathroom between because it can really screw the net weight up.

Meats lose lots of water, ground beef goes from ~20g to ~30g protein per 100... Big difference.

Weighting the protein uncooked provides an absolute reference to protein content, with cooked protein water weight will differ depending on method and temp applied.

I only ever weight anything uncooked. It would me no sense to me to weight after cooking as I never refrigerate cooked meat, if I plain eating 80g protein from chicken I know I have to weight 400g crude, then grill and just eat what's the friggin point of weighting after cooking?

I use to weigh all foods for many years but over the last 20 yrs I don't weight anything now, I know by sight how much a chicken breast and a cup of rice contains, infact I know how much everything contains just by sight. I usually go of how my body reacts. Being governed by the gym and food for over 33 yrs you get en eye for this kind of thing and to be honest everyone's metabolism is different anyway so there's a lot of variations going on

I'm in a similar boat to Marcus. I started cooking when I was 12 years old and don't weigh much anymore - still use a measuring cup for liquids like egg whites though.
