What is this crap on the top of my hCG?

I had a vial of reconstituted hCG in my fridge since the first week of December. I took it out today and it had what looked like tiny snow flakes stuck to the rubber stopper. It wasnt ice crystals, because after being at room temperature for at least an hour, they are still there.

There is almost nothing left in the vial now, so I am not using it, but I was just wondering is it normal. If it happens again, is it safe to just swab it off with an alcohol pad? or is the whole vial contents contaminated?

I always use alcohol to wipe the stopper off before use, but never after drawing out of the vial.

Looks like a little stray HCG dried when you drew a dose.

Ok. I never clean off the stopper after drawing. It might have been a drop stayed there. But what is the crystalline structure about? Is it that it got eaten by mold in the air? I leave the vial in the plastic prescription pill bottle it came in,so the only air is what got sealed in when I screwed the cap on the container.

The residue is what left from the water/diluent evaporating.

In a nutshell, the crystals are the HCG without the water.
