    Thyroid

Are blood tests the only way to know if your thyroid is functioning properly?
I am getting 1/2 of my thyroid removed today and am curious if there is anyway that I can know if it is functioning normal or not. The surgeon said that the I tension is to leave 1/2 of my thyroid with the intent to not have to use meds- but no guarantee.
Will this change any cycles and or results?

    Uggggh,

    Don’t know - that’s a fairly intricate question

I’d try to ask your MD, just without mentioning roids at all

fatigue , lethargy, being tired all the time is the number one sign that your thyroid is low.. also hypoglycemia

You have to wait and see how well your thyroid responds to determine whether med's are needed or not. Hopefully not.

There is still a chance that the other 1/2 is removed.

Thyroid hormones function on feedback loops. Perhaps the 1/2 will just work harder.

I think bw is the only definitive way to determine function for purposes that will satisfy you and the doctor. After you know for sure, monitor symptoms to determine if you need to get rechecked.

    Are you a Dr?????
My Dr said I have to wait 3 weeks to be tested. You have always had answers to medical questions.
