Oxytocin Dosing/Frequency For Coming Off Opiods During Therapy?

Ok, so a friend of mine jacked up his back years ago and has been on pain meds ever since. He just had surgery on it a few weeks ago, which made a huge difference. They have him doing physical therapy at this point, but he wants to start weaning off his pain meds. He's really wary because of all the horror stories he has heard of withdrawal. He also refuses to spend the rest of his life on pain meds, which I give him serious props for.

Considering he doesn't have health insurance and the lawsuit he won regarding the injury only covered the surgery and physical therapy, I'm doing what I can to help him out. Found a few things in my supplier's list that should help him out, including oxytocin. Seems promising as far as helping withdrawal symptoms from opioids.

The problem is, I'm having a hard time finding the proper dosing for intramuscular. Everything I find as far as studies is intranasal. Those doses average 20-40iu/day in studies related to opioid withdrawal, but it doesn't say how often or any mention of im or sub-q. I'm assuming a comparable dose would be fine, but with how fast oxytocin goes through your system, how often should he be using this for what he's looking to do? Any time of the day preferable? Is im or sub-q preferable? I appreciate whatever feedback anyone can give me, because I only have so much spare time to help him, and I just can't seem to find this info.

I would suggest having your friend call the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration:

    https://www.samhsa.gov/find-help/national-helpline

And the Health and Human Services has help available too:

    https://www.hhs.gov/opioids/treatment/index.html

I really would contact them and take advantage of the services that they provide. It's not something he should do on his own.

it can definitely be done on your own no problems. i had a back surgery and was prescribed just shy of 1000 pills per month. which was a combination of oxycodone slow and fast release, and methadone. virtually all those clinics are bullshit maintenance clinics, and all they do is keep you on methadone, suboxone, or bupe for years if not the rest of your life.

if he wants to come of oxytocin will do nothing for his withdrawals. the key is to slowly ween down to a very miniscule dose, and then switch to kratom. the dose of kratom will be just enough to function, and will n3ed to be taken up to 6 times daily. then you slowly drop the dose of kratom until your taking nothing, and then you withdraw. there is no way around the withdrawals, you can make them not as intense by weaning down, but you will not get off without some form of withdrawals.

I wish your friend the best of luck.

I lost two good friends to pain killers.
(not death but they killed their lives)

I've heard of people using kratom to get off opiods. It can be habit forming too so he wouldn't want to use it for too long, but should get him through the physical detox. If cravings become an issue down the road, there are recovery support groups like NA that might be worth looking into. Inpatient treatment is also an option.

Thanks so much for all the info guys. My father was stuck on pain meds for life after a bad car accident, and so was my friend's mother, which is some of the many reasons he wants to stop them. We have both seen the long-term consequences firsthand, and he is well aware that the longer he is on them, the more his brain is re-wiring itself to become dependent on them.

I heard about kratom being a way to wean down. I did suggest that to him already. His issue is he said it works so similarly to an opioid from what he has read (and I have to agree) that it's like going from one addiction to another. But, getting it in powder form could be an easier way to wean down, so he is considering it.

My problem is I don't have hardly any free time to look into this for him, but he is a great friend of mine. And I have access to so much that I'm trying to figure at least something out to help him.

The only things I read about that seemed they could help (that I can get) were oxytocin and selank. Maybe a combo of kratom, oxytocin, and selank. I find it interesting as well, as I had another friend of mine years back that came of (I believe it was) oxycodone and it was a nightmare for him. I'm curious as to see how much of a difference these things can make. The selank definitely seems to have potential more than the oxytocin, but I have seen numerous studies where oxytocin was effective in helping with various withdrawals, including opioids. Since they have very little side-effects, figured he might as well give them a shot.

    suboxone.

start small and pull back daily.

it will hurt a bit, however it should.

saved my life and I was off the subs within 30 days.

I don't think I have any source for that, but I'll take a look around. Thank you!
