I am curious does it matter if water is in it or milk???? I was under the impression that milk is bad for you and it is better to drink all protein shakes with water like Elliot stated????

Yeah it matters. You don't want to put milk in your shakes, not good.

I put 1/2 cup with my whey and water this morning. Shook it my "brand name" shaker and took the first drink just as Howard Stern was describing his gruesome fart he hit his girlfriend with on the radio. the story and the texture of the drink didnt sit well together!
Actually it was a pretty good way to get down those oats in a hurry.
    thanks for the tip.

Why is milk bad to use in the shakes vs water or juice?

I believe he means that the body converts all carbs into sugar (glucose) to fuel our bodies.

I have done this for quite sometime. I can't stand cooked oatmeal and I get so full half way through I can't finish it. Instead of mixing my protein and oatmeal together, I now mix ground oatmeal and a dash of crystal light, wyler's, or whatever name brand w/ zero cals. I got tired of the same ole protein and oatmeal taste. Taste like pink lemonade w/ chunks. Then I can enjoy my protein shake by itself.

This morning I tried and liked it but ran into some problems....

1)You shake it but as soon as you stop shaking it settles to the bottom so you end up drinking away all the fluid and have the oatmeal on the bottom. Leading me to drink and fill it a bit, drink and fill a bit, repeat until it was all gone.
    2) The oatmeal really sapped away all the sweetness of the powder. Next time Im adding some splenda!

milk is not bad for you. It is not really meant to be in cuttin diets, but bulking diets it can be great.

I also think that adding milk to my protien shakes makes it 10 times better tasting. lol

I am kind of against milk in a diet just for the sugars in it. Others will argue it is simple, natural sugars, but my body responds poorly to it. Just my .02 cents though.

the straight goods on uncooked oatmeal

It is definitely not unhealthy to eat oats uncooked. In fact, for muscle building and fat loss, eating oats uncooked instead of cooked it is probably more beneficial.

During the cooking process the water and heat expand the carbohydrate molecules within the oat granules. The starch swells and bursts during cooking. This process frees the carbohydrate from its compartments. The food is digested quicker and produces a rapid and high increase in blood sugar. Cooking increases the grain's rate of absorption into the blood stream.

While I don't advise eating rice or pasta uncooked, oats maybe one grain that is a good exception to the rule. Eating uncooked oats will slow the rate of absorption of carbohydrates into the blood stream and promote lower, steadier blood glucose and insulin levels. This is more productive to muscle growth and fat loss.

yeah I've been doing this for a while. At work this is the quickest and most nutritious thing I could think of. Only bad thing: Almost all my protein comes from whey, and almost all my carbs come from oatmeal. I know I need more whole-food protein but I just can't always get it in my schedule PPWO is always whole food though for me.
Also ground up flax and whey is a great pro/fat meal. Before work I mix up some oats and whey in some baggies, and flax and whey in baggies. Also, if you prefer an easier to drink oatmeal shake, you can put it in a coffee grinder, but the baby rolled oats work great for me without grinding them up.

I find it hard to put on serious amounts of musclemass simply because I have a seriously fast metabolism and I have an active job so I find it really hard to get enough calories in. I have to drink milk with every shake and often add double cream to my shakes for the extra calories.

Is it bad to eat alot of simple carbs with a body like mine, because I eat whatever I want and dont get fat? Is it slowing my progress or is it what I need?
