What martial arts do you practice
Finally after getting my treatement yesterday for my lower back i got some very positive feedback from my physio, he said that i can get back into martial arts real fast.
There is a very small dojo near my house and there is a tone of arts, karate, judo, jiu jitsu, aikido.
You can mix the arts togheter too , i was really thinking about Jiu Jitsu and is brand mix of karate, i went to see the dojo its really nice and saw the karate course, pertty cool, they dont practice kata, you get a lot of pad work kicks and punches.
I dont wanna compete this time i just wanna get in top shape and just have fun practicing.

Just 'retired' from competative kickboxing to mainly coach a junior club (10-16yr olds) and referee. I'm concentrating on Judo now, with a smattering of Vale Tudo.

Yeah Bouncer when i was younger i competed in tae kwon do a lot and shotokan 2 point system ( WUSSSSS) LOL, i really didnt like the 2 point system nor all the katas involved in karate.
I would also like a bit of vale tudo training, and kickboxing sounds really cool too.
The school has a lot of art calls itself the budo technic, the sensei told me that i can chose any class i want so i guess a combination of Jiu Jitsu and karate would be my best choice, he told me that the karate they practice doesnt have katas and is really based on self defense and street fighting.
Lets hope for the best and a full lower back rehab.
Thanks again guys for your feedbacks

Started with Okinawan Karate at age 11. Did some Judo for a few years too as a teenager. Plenty of KickBoxing through the years, but it wasn;t until I started training with wrestlers and JJ buddies that it all came together for me! I'm much older now and would like to train fighters for MMA and possibly promote some events as well.

Wrestling has been my life and always will be in my life till my shoes go in the center of the mat.... CONTROL is the wrestlers game..
Submission Grappling(sambo, Bjj , Catch wrestling) Ive taken all of these apart and they all have keys.. Each have advantages that can be used as disadvantages on each other.. Once a wrestler learns BJJ you control the whole ground game.. Catch wrestling is a big guys game power power (it works good for me)... Sambo is good due to the lower body submissons a must know..(not so much for the street) Bjj is all about the flow one to another to another its for the thinker (a must because it makes you think while your on the ground)
Judo is great... putting the (sport GI)aside..... And much to my surprise it counters wrestling very well on the feet
As far as the striking goes.....
Boxing as far as striking goes should be the start or the base.. A good hands is a dream of mine and to tell the truth my hands are fair.. yes I have KO power yes I ve ko'd people with body shots... It hasnt come easy to me
Sparring and ring time are so important
Kickboxing/ MT is hard for me.. My knees and elbows flow my low kicks flow by high kicks forget about it... Sparring and ring time are so important..
So if I didnt have a MMa school to go to what would I take
1. boxing --------> then MT
2. Some grappling------------> Bjj then Sambo
3. Judo or wrestling
Its not a 1 year program start with one or try the one that you feel your good at... One night a week to learn for people with real jobs and family.. set up something at home... Myself I have a gym(weights) bags, wrestling mat and I train and teach at a gym.. run a Bizness, but I fine myself working out at home alot.. Just because of TIME
For street defense anything is better than none at all.. But I would lookin to something dirty.... strikes to the throat--- biting--- gouging--- the more nasty the better.. a guy told me one time. " Its better to ride in the back of a cop car after a fight than an a ride to the hospital"

GUys, thanks for the input from you all. I'm surprised at the wealth of martial arts experience we have here on AR.com. Keep it up lads and drop by the forum often.

I currently train:
Muay Thai
Ju Jitsu
Judo
wrestling
(Ive also done some shooto, submission wrestling, and boxing)
I live in Tokyo, Japan so the MMA action is great here. I used to belong to the Pancrase Gym over here but found they many of the members werent very teamed orientated...worried about loosing there spot to the next guy, so I switched to the Grabaka banner for a while..great group of guys. I have since moved on to specialized dojos/gyms
As a sugestion to someone looking for something that gives you an all around fighting experience I would recommend shooto or pancration..often times those dojos...gyms will have various specialist come in and give instruction..for example the Grabaka dojo, I used to go to, has a judo , wrestling , ju jitsu, boxing, mauy thai, and shooto specialists who come in and instruct every week with split classes everyday (one stricking class and one grappling)....theses guys are the real deal too..many competing in pride or k-1 presently....I know some of the gyms in the states are also like that...team quest's gym is one such gym...so you might want to look around.

I earned a red belt in traditional tae kwon do, in my middle school years. Decided to drop TKD to pursue school sports and the weights. On Saturday, I just passed my test for a green belt with a blue stripe in Olympic-Style tae kwon do. I have stuck with TKD because there are so many schools available. I enjoy standup so what I would really like is to get involved in Muay Thai. No schools available where I live though.
