Bad News for Pride (OWGP)
from sherdog.com
Wonder-lei No More, Silva Not in Grand Prix
Heavily rumored to be a participant in PRIDE's upcoming Open-Weight Grand Prix, Wanderlei Silva (Pictures) told Sherdog.com's Gleidson Venga he will not be one of the 16 fighters scheduled to compete May 5 in Osaka, Japan.
Silva, PRIDE's 205-pound champion, last appeared in the ring against Ricardo Arona (Pictures) on New Year's Eve, defeating his fellow Brazilian by split decision.***No source checks!!!***

That's too bad. Hopefully he'll still get to fight Coleman on the next card.

Wand commenting on reason for not fighting in OWGP:
-I just want to say that i wont be fighting. I would, but just for the money, but i didnt accept their offer, but afterall fight just for the money wasnt the right thing to do. Actually i was really stressed out and wanted to spend some quality time with my family, - but i've just got back into training, and my team and guys in the gym are really impressed. They say i'm more agressive than before.
- My contract with PRIDE actualy is over and i'm unemployed! (laughs) I even received a proposal from an AMERICAN ORG, that is trying to get even with UFC. They even proposed my boss (Rudimar Fedrigo) a good amount, US$500k, plus ppv, but thats not what i want, but it's good to see that that kinda proposal from USA. (like: wow: MMA is really getting somewhere in USA!!)
- They're (PRIDE) putting some fights just to feed the real great fighters, like Cro Cop and Nog on the first round of the GP. I think it's gonna be really hard on the second round, where the beasts are gonna meet.***No source checks!!!***

One other thing, all this talk about the OWGP is pissing me off now. They need to officially announce ALL the fights and get all this BS over with, thats what I hate about Pride they are always last minute.

I agree Sonar...they need Wandy, Arona, Hendo, Ninja, Filho and even Busta. They have all these "scrubs" no offense but I dont wanna see a pro boxer vs. Yoshida.

I think they really hastily put this together not knowing who would even volunteer to fight and now its coming back to them.

People keep hating on the UFC saying PRIDE is better but if Pride keeps up with all these half decent cards, UFC will get better. UFC has really improved recently...I love both orgs dont get me wrong but I hate the way Pride puts events together.

What do you mean "all these half decent cards".
Pride is pretty consistent, don't forget Bushido cards as well...they have a huge talent roster and not everyone wants to fight big guys...
The first rd of the GP is not gonna be the best but the 2nd round is gonna be sick.***No source checks!!!***
