train alone?
does anyone here train alone.....I DLed 2 muay thai videos and i had some bas rutten videos that i have been training with. I have a heavy bag, gloves, and a jump rope. My routine is jump rope for 5-10 mins, light shadow box for 3 rounds, heave bag 3 rounds, then intense shadow box for 3 rounds. Two weeks ago i almost got into a brawl cause some punks were talking shit to my lady friend and it pissed me off so much iam motivated again to train. I could of probably wooped their asses but it was too many dudes. So i had to walk away in shame lol. I have done boxing for a few months as a teenager and karate as a pre teen for a few years. A year ago i went to classes at a local gym and it was a joke so i figured id be better off with my own equipment and just work at home instead of with other ppl just trying to lose weight.

better to walk away then get your ass handed to you. The most important thing is to know when to hold em and when to fold em. Training alone is tough. Its hard to get critiqued and to be shown how to correct your mistakes. I know that carlos newton trained alone.

training alone is HARD. No matter how good you think you're doing, w/o sparring and / or outside opinion...you won't improve as much as yout hink. I'd suggest find a better local school personally.
P.S. Even if you are a bad ass w/ tons of experience..i'd still suggest walking away. Nothing worse than getting involved with a women getting a hard time from a guy and find out that they are dating and suddenly when the cops come it was you attacking her bf ... ghey.

Carlos newton trained alone sometimes .. he also trained at many gyms, and was trained by Moni Isaac - the man responsible for revolutionaizing Krav Maga. I live in Toronto, and know many gyms that Carlos has trained at.
Training alone is good to an extent- there is no subsitute for sparring.

If its the only thing u have time for or your work keeps you too busy to go to a gym then do it, but eventually to improve u need to preactise with people in grappling and sparring.

Takes a bigger man to walk away, good work. Remember your training is for "self-defense" not self offense.

You can definitely benefit from training on your own, but like others said, you won't get a realistic skill. You can develop the basic fundamentals that you can later apply towards legitimate experience. Even informal "garage training" will help with things like timing, reaction, realistic competitive energy.
As far as getting into it with dudes- It's kind of funny how you worded that, but I understand. I almost never get into street fights because I don't want to get shot or stabbed while trying to do a one on one "fair" fight, which just doesn't happen anymore. Even if you're outnumbered by one guy, that still can easily be too much, unless they're guys that pipe off and then freeze after you bitch slap the shit out of the first guy- which happens!
