Are you being judge by traditional martial arts students
Seems that the whole world of MMA, NHB is really not well seen in the eye of the traditionnal martial arts of today.
I have been calling and visiting a few martial arts school, and asking around if they have MMA classes.
I guess that i really tought MMA would be a great part of the evolution of the martial arts, and of course the chance to learn real street fighting for defense.
Seems that the traditional students rather enjoy there forms and soft sparring session dressed like amoured trucks rather then doing the real thing.
Guess i just dont understand why people love to spend there time learning useless forms.
Funny how theses traditionnal students are not fans of MMA but are Royce Gracie and Ken Shamrock nutuggers.
They still think that Royce and Ken are tearing up the MMA scene and beating everyone has it used to be.
IDIOTS.

traditional students? Well if you are talking about bjj in that too...that is far from "sparring soft". I can't speak for whomever you are talking about... but i know i personally don't like "mma schools" and people who ask about them because 99% of the time it's some dumbass wanna "ultimate fighter" who wants to be billy badass. Everytime i hear about MMA it's from some couch fan who talks about its so easy and thye know everything just cus joe rogan told em about arm bars and triangles. You wanna talk about some idiots...there ya go.

Most traditionnal karate schools, tkd schools...
Theses people. I have nothing against BJJ its an art with no forms , katas and looks really cool, same has Judo, Greco Romain wrestling but yet again none of this is available to me in my area and it sucks.
I am so far from being the billy bad ass you descirbed, one of my friends leaving 2 hours from my house goes to an MMA class 3 times a week, he learns boxing, BJJ, Wrestling and Muay Thai.
I'd love to attend one of theses classes.

Where I practiced Karate, they welcomed any style to attend and spar. Although Kenpo was taught you could utilize any method you felt was affective. I hope you find the school your looking for. Its great to be humbled once in a while with a good arse kickin'

My opinion on this, being a kenpo instructor (NOT American Kenpo/Ed Parker) myself, is that forms/katas are beneficial to beginning students as they help with balance and its good practice for developing kicks/punches. I use them now as just a good warm-up to my heavy bag training. But they are NOT intended for self-defense.

I never seem them do any sparring, i talked to the sensei again last night, i went to see the kickboxing class.
I am 34 i dont plan on fighting full contact or going pro anytime soon, i wanna get in shape but sparring is part of a good self defense course.
I asked if the kickboxing course add any leg kicks, knees, she told me that its not Muay Thai but traditionnal kickboxing, i asked about sparring and she looked at me like i came from another planet or something.
SHe asked my backround i told her that i practiced Kyo kushin karate, she look at me and told me that there karate style was far from kyo kushin.
My girlfriend is very interested in the kickboxing class, the dojo is very well equiped with heavy bags, banana bags and there is even a boxing ring? so there has to be sparring.
I will go watch the full class tonight its 3 times a week and is 1 hour 30 minutes long.

Like I said, the beginning students benefit from forms but the farther up in the belt ranks you get in the kenpo I practice/teach, the more sparring we do. The kickboxing would be great for the girl if she wants to get into shape. Its tough to see how good you are if you NEVER spar. We go about 70-75% contact with head gear glvoes and footpads that its. The sensai I learned under is all about semi contact all the time and has no use for body pads as he believes you should be protecting that area and if your not then you will soon enough after you take a couple shots.

There is a kickboxing ring so my guess is they must spar at some point, pertty sure its semi contact. I will have to see.
