Maybe a silly question but does anyone rate traditional kung fu styles as an effective fighting art. Back in the 70's it was all the rage and there are still plenty of kung fu schools around there are probably about 20 in the small area where I live

not generally. Great art form. But I think it also depends on who's teaching it.
