    Do you guys always wrap?

I usually dont when hitting the bag. Is this horrible? Will I pay in th long run?

Honestly...You have to wrap. It is so important to wrap.

You dont hit it bare knuckle do you. When I hit the bag I not only wrap but I put on a pair of 10oz gloves as well. Short-term your fine. Maybe a couple bloody knuckles but nothing too serious. But if you do it over many years you can experience hand problems and even arthritis.

we got a winner!!!!! my beginers will ask me if i need to wrap?? i say no, you wont need to wrap until you learn how to throw correct punches. then when you do learn how to throw correct punches, you'll invest into longer hand wraps, that most of you dont have. then you'll start makeing knuckle gaurds, as time goes on. if you dont use handwraps theres something missing in your form. if you throw your punches like a hockey player, you dont have to wrap. you dont have to take my word for it, you'll find it out on your own when you train with guys that are at the next level!!! everybody thats at the top level wraps!!! period end of story!!!

when your not going all out, and your hurting the bones in your hands. that indicates to me that you are throwing sharp, crisp punches.

in the long run, if you stay after it you will throw those sharp, crisp punches. i would get the long wraps. you can find them in the ring side mag, or title.

Thank man. I guess ill throw this out there. Any good tips are drills. I have Bas Ruttens big DVDs of combat, and they show a lot of nice stuff, but if you have any good ideas for drills or technique let me know please.

Well, Ive tried 10 times to wrap, and i cant do it. LOL I am really getting pissed off. I get no support for my wrist at all just a little padding for my knuckles that doesnt feel any different than having a glove on. Sigh. Are you supposed to be able to do this yourself on both hands?

I used to have to wrap my hands when I first started training, especially when hitting the heavy bag. My wrists have gotten to the point to where I don't need them anymore.

Always wrap when hitting a bag and sparring. Actually I always wrap at the beginning of a training session.

If you are beating the piss out of that bag, you probably will eventually hyper-extend your wrist by accident. Its happened to me on a couple occasions and it sucks! no more training for the rest of the week. I've been in a few IKF competitions and am known for my power, heart, and a few other attributes (unfortunately my experience and form isn't where I'd like it to be yet.) That being said, If you can throw bombs, you should be perfectly able to overwhelm your wrist joint when you least expect it. The more you bang without wraps, the faster you accumulate weak spots in your joints.

Ever get cortisone injections in your knuckles? Hit enough shit you shouldnt and you will. Its great! You can feel the needle slide in and the medicine tears the scar tissue and you feel it creep and tear! Yummy! I would wrap personally. Arthritis sucks a d. Thats just knuckles! I cannot imagine that shit in my wrist. Just shoot me! Lol

Never was a question for me, used wraps from day 1. Hurts way too much if I don't. Wrist is the first to hurt but knuckles take a beating too.

An old friend of mine has damaged the nerves on his hands and they look like crap and his dexterity sucks. He often skipped wrapping them and trained for over a decade.
