Monday Notes: A Look Ahead (Post UFC-75)

* Anyone else think UFC 75 was a great card? Everything lived up to expectations, & to receive it for free was amazing. It’s just a shame that SpikeTV hasn’t acquired a HD signal yet, at least not where I live. I was just happy to see some top flight competition go at it, as it’s been quite awhile since the last major MMA show.

* Through my apparent drunk goggles the night of the card, I felt quite embarrassed with the judges in the Matt Hamill & Michael Bisping fight. I thought Hammil won the fight with ease, & felt that he was utterly screwed out of a decision. After watching the fight again the next day, when sober, I felt completely different.

While I thought it was a close fight. I still dont think Bisping won that fight. I think the thing that gave it to him was that he was got more aggressive as the fight went on. Saying that though, I dont believe he out pointed Hammil. To me, Hammil took him to the ground when he wanted, and let him to so he could strike. He was striking at will early and landed nearly as many, he took Bisping to the ground at will. I think toward the end Bisping was doing a great job at getting to his feet, whereas in the first two rounds +, I believe Hammil let him up because he wasnt affraid to punch.To me, he wanted to show everyone he was much more than just a wrestler and was improved all the way around, which was his downfall IMO. My take is that Hammil did what he wanted almost at will and dictated the pace of that fight. He could have worked a little more, but just because Bisping threw more punches, didnt mean he was scoring with them. And didnt one of the judges have ALL 3 rounds going to Bisping?
