Floyd Mayweather to fight MMA?
http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/box...ory?id=3165552
Leave it to Mark Cuban...if this happens, you might have some top guys passing on the UFC to get a crack at him.

Wont happen in a million years in my opinion. Just a publicity stunt.

I second this
Mayweather would get battered to fvck.
Im no expert in MMA but have done enough over the last 10 years to know that even I could beat the shit out of him in the octagon.
He would get destroyed and is stupid to think MMA fans will take this stunt serious.
Like my post on Fedor fightin Couture, people think hmm maybe? when I saw this thread before even clicking I said bull shit to my self.

It says that he will have to look into MMA more because he wants to know exactly what he MIGHT be getting into before doing it. This is an intriging line considering that if he "looks" into it and says he will do it, then great. If he looks into it and says no he won't do it, then the questions of why not will arise. In my mind, if he looks into it as he says and does not try MMA, then I will assume that he realizes he cannot compete. If he does then he will get destroyed. Mark Cuban said if there was a $30million purse involved he would be lacing them up right now. Of course this kind of payday is not happening in an MMA event.

anyone know that most fights get taken to the ground, and then its not about how fast or hard you can punch, but submisions and grappling.... he would get destroyed, no contest, and he would never have the balls to get in the cage!

I'm not defending boxers by any means in this ongoing debate But there are MMA fighter's competing at the profesional level who have been training for as little as 1 year. Mayweather is a world class athlete so who says if trained on all the other aspects he could not step into the octagon as a serious competitor

if he seriously trained hard it would take a year or two to just get the basics down, good enough to even think about contending.... he would have to hault boxing and just focus on mma... i dont see that happining..... my friend trains BJJ and has for years and he is really really good, and has the trophys to prove it, hes trained in brazil with the gracies, and he says that even he wouldnt stand a chance in the ring against these mma fighters. hes good, they are really really good.... im guessing it would take longer than a year for him to get the skills needed to stand a chance in the cage.....but yes it could be done.

Be real man, what chances does he have on the floor? Im bigger stronger and heavier than he is, unless he knocks me out with the first punch he's gonna get upended and spear tackled in the the canvas.
Unless he has a Chuck Liddell style defence against being shot to the floor I doubt he would trouble me much.
Ive never been knocked down let alone knocked out and only rattled a few times. I could get down to 170 easy id fight Mayweather at that and id finish him in the first round.
If you were talking boxing, id give myself 30 seconds of moving about the ring before he sparked me the fvck out.
Horses for courses mate, Mayweather is a thorough breed race horse looking to go head to head with a Iron mongers stallion in a cart pulling competition if he is thinking of stepping in to the Cage with any one.

I think this will be the case also, he will demand too much money to be a viable fighter in any of the MMA leagues. I think the higest paid fighter in the MMA is Chuck Liddell right now and he gets about $500k per fight...not including endorsements and revenue sales from PPV. Still would come close enough for that guy to accept a fight.
In anycase, but Mayweather up against one of the better fighters in his weight and he'll get submitted

I think so too, he dosen't want any part of Cotto. How can you retire and say there is nothing left for boxing to offer? If he is thinking about MMA then why not fight Cotto.
I sometimes think that boxers learn how to win in the system that they have. If they don't get the knockout they always rely on the screwy decisions. I somehow think that builds some false sense of ego. Regardless, I think he needs to fight Cotto. After that there is no one left and then he can retire. If I was Floyd it would be in the back of my mind if I retired and left an unanswered fight with Cotto out there.
It shows his true character.

Cuban will feed him some scrub for his first few fights who he will destroy. Any UFC guy would kill him right now, but imagine him punching you with those little gloves...ouch!

Don't be so sure of that. I know the MMA fighters are great, no question, but you have to consider that none of them have had to fight anyone with the punching skill and power of a world champion boxer. Granted if the fight goes to the ground, the boxer is in big trouble, but getting hit by him is not quite the same, especally with those striking gloves, he can take you out cold with one shot.

I will agree with you on the ground skills, but you are kidding yourself if you don't think he can punch. I guarantee that any world class boxer has better punching skills than MMA fighters, just as I would agree that MMA fighters have better ground skills than world class boxers.

Is this true?
He's being scheduled to "wrestle" The Big Show at Wrestlemania this year.
What I would pay to see Paul White (Big SHow) versus Mayweather for real in the Octagon. Mayweather would last 2 seconds.
