Wanderlei Silva at 185lbs?
SOURCE: http://www.wanderleisilva.com.br/blog/
"I just arrived in Vegas and I'm heading to UFC's office to know more about my next fight. Everyone is talking about Jardine but there's nothing official yet, and I think it would be a good opponent because his style matches mine and he would be a good pick for my next fight. At the same time there will be the match between Anderson Silva and Dan Henderson which will be a great bout and if Henderson underdogs and wins I wouldn't think twice about dropping weight class to fight him. Respect on the side, I have him stuck on my throat since our last fight because I wasn't on my best days on that ocasion. I'm thinking seriously about changing my weight class on the UFC because I'm very small and the average fighter on here are 1.90cm (6’3).. and at the moment I'm only 1.80 (6'0).. there's been some time that I've been waiting.. but so far I haven't grown anything else and I believe my size will be this! Would you guys like to see me at another weight class? what do you think? I'll do my best to keep this blog updated and I'll keep you guys informed, including everything that happens with this friend [refering to him] that you have here on Vegas! A hug, stay with God!"
----------------------------
Very interesting, might be a tougher cut than he thinks. He is not a huge weight cutter in the first place and he is solid as a ****ing rock. I could see him knocking some heads off shoulders at 185lbs. I guess time will tell.***No source checks!!!***

No need to respond to such ignorance.
--------------------
Of course people should remember that Anderson & Wanderlei were team mates at Chute Boxe for years until Anderson left. They have trained and sparred many times.
I don't see very many people giving him problems at 185lbs in the UFC. His main competition would be from Anderson, Henderson. A strong LnP is bad for Wanderlei...not to many in the MW division in the UFC.
He would be like a bull in a china shop in the MW division.***No source checks!!!***

i love silva and yes he is a true warrior but i watched that fight in daytona at hooters and the placed was packed and almost everyone agreed that chuck had no trouble with wanderlai and silva looked beat pretty bad, Ive been competing and refereeing fights for 20 years, guess that the judges and all the crew i watched it with and myself are all wrong and u guys are all right but hey been wrong before guys i can take it

btw for the record i was rootin for silva, im not a big fan of chuck but he is one bad man, just didnt see silva put him in any danger at all and chucks take down defence was sick that night, i honestly would like to see a rematch to see if it was just luck or if wandi just had a bad night or if he just needs some adjusting to the ufc rules and the octagon

Reffing what? Not MMA..hate to break it to you but your Boxing or whatever ref experience means jack shit in this sport.
Sure, Chuck won..but it was far from a beating and was nowhere even close to being a Unanimous Decision, then again the judges are dumb****s from Boxing. So that was no surprise.
The topic at hand here is Wanderlei potential cut to 185lbs...not any of his other fights. God forbid this thread stay on topic.

shyt, anderson had kicked everyone's ass. aome of those 205lb-ers should drop down and try to make a name for themselves. the 205 class is pretty locked up right now. i really dont see rampage lossing that belt for a while either.

whatever pal just keep the flamin up and god forbid anyone else but you can have an opinion, so what are you an expert in mma and everything else too? how many ufc fights have you had?? If your a good referee in any fighting style you can adapt to ref in mma, same as a martial artist, judge the martial artist not the martial art, big john mccarthy wasn't always a mma referee, but he would be a good referee in any sport as long as he's diverse which he is, chuck beat the sh*t out of wandi and he definately won that fight hands down and I bet he'd do it again although I wish wandi would beat him I just don't see it happenin, thats my opinion and im entitled to it same as everyone else is, doesn't mean it's right or it's wrong but I would put 10 grand on chuck winning in a rematch, thats the difference i will put my money where my mouth is same as I did and won on the first fight, cheers

Man ive been thinking about this a long time, I mean why would Wandy just come right in and fight Chuck right away, you would think his camp would have wanted a warm up fight and it just didnt seem like Wandy....but hey a few hard KO's does take it's toll, look at Mirko.

reffing MMA for 20 years LMFAO!!!! everyone online has there "claim". So you were a ref, you watched it in hooters and you think chuck beat the snot out of wandy????? Im lost , something is missing here. How does diversity make someone a good ref too?? I thought firm and fair was a better approach? diverse? so he has ablack mommy and a hispanic daddy? Im still lost here ref, im tapping out

wow didn't think my opinion would cause so much anger!! lmfao noone said i have reffed mma for 20 years, your message is a little confusing.....black mommy and hispanic daddy????? what the hell?? hahaha so you think chuck lost?? hey if thats your opinion cool, but i saw the fight and i thought chuck won all the rounds, i was rootin for wandi, neither one is my favorite just callin it how I seen it, say what you want, but I do have 20 years experience and I am a Taekwondo master and since ufc 1 I have been involved in mma as well, thats not my expertise but i do love it, im almost 40 and past my prime so my focus now is on coaching both in mma and taekwondo, hope they have a rematch would love to see it but obviousely wandi wants none of that if he's gonna step down to 185, cheers

dude, I watched UFC 1 in person from the friggin apron of the ring, I was with my camp I boxed with here in Charlotte NC, we all went out to see who would fare better a boxer or a wrestler.....there wasnt ANY MMA guys back then, there was wrestlers with a bit of striking or ju jitsu guys with none or sumop wrestlers whatever, it wasnt MMA, you werent into MMA 20 years ago, maybe tae kwan do (speed for the sake of speed is its translation in my language) but you were not doing MMA 20 years ago otherwise that crap would have frustrated the hell out of you watching it. the black mommy and hispanic daddy thing was playing on your words about a good ref being DIVERSE I am just playing symantics there.

relax big guy relax ur gonna blow a gasket, never said i was in mma for 20 years i have been in taekwondo 20 years and mma since ufc 1, bjj to be exact it wasn't called mma but back then bjj was the start and now in my bjj class we do everything...wrestling boxing, they even ask me to help with the kicking because of my taekwondo experience so relax big guy we all get the picture...ur one big bad man who can beat all of us up for stating our opinion....we get it and actually taekwondo is translated as the art of hand and foot fighting but thanks for the korean lesson
-
02-20-2008, 04:21 PM #23
both of you chill...gettin_big... you come off as knowing it all and calling people out...some people might get uptight about it...
bittapart2...who cares if he thinks his experience makes him a better judge on who one... in the end...it doesn't matter cus the judges agreed. Honestly the fight wasn't good enough to keep debating it ya know.
for the record... i can tap you all out... so stfu (just kidding...just thought i'd throw in some shit talking myself :P)

im actually having fun with it, this guy is getting all huffy and puffy IMO.
I just need to clear it up about my "korean" , I was just jabbing at you about TKD I just dont consider a lot of speed without power and no real ground game a practical fighting system against a trained fighter, thats all, thats why I said "speed for the sake of speed" because its sure as heck not for the sake of whipping up on a trained experienced MMA technician, I didnt think it really translated to that LOL.

I like the idea, I think that division is locked up by ASilva. Now Hendo and Wandy are in there so ASilva doesn't keep the belt forever. PLUS, I think Wandy could come up and beat Rampage AGAIN!! Its all in how they match up.
-
02-20-2008, 04:52 PM #26
i think tank abbott can whip all of them, seen him on youtube sayine he was comin in at 205 to win the belt and then droppin to 185 to woop anderson cant wait to see that!

i know that taekwondo would get killed in mma without a ground game but give an ELITE taekwondo player and give him good ground skills and he can compete, i always believed this and we actually used to spar against our kickboxer and boxing friends and always did well but i truly believe it after seeing an elite taekwondo fighter in K1 named serkan yilmaz, now this is elite tkd not some of that half as* stuff you usually see from guys who say there tkd fighters, give this guy some ground skills and u have a good fighter

Gettin Big you are free to speak your mind but please back up your claims with some valid points not by saying your a reff or tellin us how long you've been watching mma for. Chuck barely won that fight it could have very easily have been a split decision for either fighter.
Wandy at 185 would be good for him and the div could also use it. I dont think him and Anderson would fight as Ninja already mentioned they are ex teammates, and Lyoto and Anderson came to Wanderlies locker room after chuck fight to support him as well. If the fight does go down i think Andersons Technical striking would be a perfect match to beat Wanderlies striking style

well i never said specifically what i was reffing and i was just saying that i have been watching competing and reffing fights for 20 yrs now, mostly taekwondo, some bjj some kickboxing etc etc, i agree it would be a good division for wandi and it's just my opinion on chuck and wandi, i definately dont think i know it all, but my opinion is that i think chuck won all the rounds again guys like i said this is just my opinion and how i seen it, id like to see a rematch, cheers
