WTF happened to Belfort vs Silva?

This is a direct quote from dana white at ufc 103 "If he can go in there and beat rich franklin vitor is the next in line to fight anderson silva at 185 pounds". Any word on why demian maia is being given this fight and not the phenom? I have been highly anticipating that fight and think maia vs silva is gonna suck.

If maia can get this fight to the ground it could be interesting. If silva keeps it standing it wont last long.

Silva is way to complete a package for Maia to give him any trouble. He will get KO'd in the first round no doubt in my mind. The phenom on the other hand I believe could have the answer to crack Silvas riddle. Any word on if he is still next in line after this fight?

I honestly dont see anyone at 185 that could beat silva. I think vitor will get crushed.
Not sure when he will be fighting. I think its bullshit for him to come back into the ufc and after one or two fights get a shot at silva.

although Belfort is my all time favorite fighter... you have a point. He didnt look to solid (looked out of shape, and not as aggressive as usual) vs Franklin and after being out that long, should atleast get some more wins under his belt before he gets the title shot.

But then again, I would MUCH rather see vitor fight silva than anybody else... JMO

silva has a black belt under the noguera brothers man. His bjj is nothing to play with either. Two of his four losses came from both noguear's by submission. Maia has no chance and hosetly yes it may have been a better fight, but vitor had no chance either. Silva has knocked out both 205'ers he fought.... How is anyone gonna f*ck with him at 185? And they weren't b*tch fighters at 205- "sandman" james irvin and forest griffin got knocked the f*ck out quick like.

Gsp needs to move up classes and that will be the most anticipated fight, maybe ever, and would probably be the best 185 match up for silva. And gsp admitted to not being ready to fight silva at that weight yet. He wants to be a natural 200lb man without cut before he fights anderson silva...

    Just a thought

personally i think gsp fighting silva is good promoting the ufc ...but i really dont see gsp taking silva down and applying his game...plus silva is so much taller than gsp ...i wouldnt be surprised if i saw gsp going for the takedown and running into one silvas knees

He has fought in other organizations recently so its not like he just came outta retirement and is getting a title shot. Check out his fight against Matt Lindland. I believe he knocks him out on the first flurry of punches in less than 40 seconds. And yes he did look to be a little gun shy against franklin but thats called respect and he also knocked franklin out with one good quick punch as soon as he did move in. That makes his last 2 fights 2 knockouts on the first flurry of punches he threw and against 2 very respectable fighters.

Naw but seriously Silva is a beast. and with Meia, i think its just a lose lose situation, yeah he has good bjj but so does Silva. I feel bad for him.

I would of much rather of seen Marquart who ko,d Maya easily get a rematch with Silva. As far as beating Silva? It would of ended the same way most likely. Imo the only one at 185 that has a chance to beat Silva is Belfort. Belfort has one of the best standups. Not only his power. But his head movement, speed and technique. I'm very disapointed this fight fell thru. No matter who won in this fight id of been happy that they won. Vitor would be one more to the list of fighter that held titles in more than one weight class if he won.

Maia isnt a bad call for next in line... him, Sonnen and Marquardt all deserve a shot but they've all beat each other so who really is "next in line"? If Okami didnt lose to Sonnen, I would have said him, even if it would be a boring fight. I know how the first fight went, but Okami has done what he needed to, to get a shot.

Who "deserves" to be next is not of much importance when its a business based on pleasing the fans which boils down to the allmighty dollar.

Honestly guys i think Sonnen deserves his shot, but i am pissed that Belfort dropped out but what can you say about a injury. but Maia will do a good job i just think Silva is too much for him.
