27-yo middleweight boxer dies from KO

Boxer Patrick Day dies following knockout loss to Charles Conwell

The Long Island native was knocked out in the final round of his scheduled ten-rounder with prospect Charles Conwell.

    By Mookie Alexander@mookiealexander Oct 17, 2019, 8:30pm EDT

...Junior middleweight Patrick Day suffered a 10th-round knockout loss to Charles Conwell on the DAZN streamed undercard of last Saturday’s Oleksandr Usyk vs. Chazz Witherspoon undercard in Chicago, IL. Day, who was put in a medically-induced coma following emergency surgery later that evening, died in hospital on Wednesday...

...Day (17-4-1, 6 KOs) was dropped twice by Conwell prior to the final (and ultimately fatal) knockdown, in which Conwell landed two right hands and a left hook that led to Day’s head crashing hard against the canvas. He was taken out of the ring on a stretcher and never regained consciousness on his way to the hospital.

His death comes three months after the passing of junior welterweight prospect Maxim Dadashev, whose cornerman Buddy McGirt stopped his IBF title eliminator bout against Subriel Matias in the 11th round. While Dadashev was never knocked down, he absorbed 260 power punches.

Patrick Day was just 27 years old.

You probably remember when Ray Mancini killed Duk Koo Kim in a fight at Caesar's in 1982. Later Kim's mother and the referee for the match both committed suicide. Got to be hard to live with yourself after something like that.

If Kim would have been a better boxer we’d still have 15 round main events instead of 12. I hope they don’t try to do anything like that with this.

    We all know the risk.
No disrespect but orientals have little value on their lives anyway.
