Askren's 'retirement' bout with Demian Maia last October was a fight for the ages, pretty shocking considering it was only his third fight in the UFC. And the UFC threw him in the deep end from jump street, Robbie Lawler on his very first fight (then again, he had worn belts at both One and Bellator). I for one was disappointed when that the sport was losing him so soon but he stated it was due to needing a hip replacement, so wadayagonnado?

Yesterday the website MMA Fighting posted this quote from Askren's podcast:

“So here’s the deal: I would never make like full-fledge, ‘Hey, I’m gonna go fight, I’m gonna chase the title. But I love combat. I enjoy wrestling. I enjoy fighting. So yeah, if someone said, ‘Here’s some money, go fight one time. Here’s the right opponent, let’s have some fun.’ I probably would, you know?”

You'd expect a 'conversion' like this might be the caused by having an excellent result from the hip replacement surgery but apparently he wasn't had it done yet.
