Who is the idiot?
The Coach or the Student
Ok so a lot of you will be tempted to jump on the student becase he is a know it all but maybe he has a point.
In my university the strength and conditioning coach gave a specific introductory workout plan to my friend (the student in this case) while he was on the football team. I do not have the specifics of this workout plan but i do know that it was a periodized training and had very specific movements like jump shrugs, deadlifting and then doing a reverse wrist curl, basically movements that were precurosr to cleaning and snatching. He also included chest exercises like incline bench press and leg exercises like squatting an so on. The issue my friend had with this training is that this same introductory training was used by female athletes who were on rugby squad. The other issue is that th coahc has WR's and kickers doing the exact same thing as linesmen. The coach didnt assess each individual player before giving them a training routine. He just gave them a generalized training. it was an introductory training course, though.
My friend keeps saying that the coach is using outdated methods specifically referring to the training and who uses it.
I know it is hard for you guys to tell whether who is right or wrong because i dont have the specific s of the training, i will try to post that too. But what can you tell from waht i've said so far?Last edited by stunner5000pt; 08-17-2006 at 10:43 PM.

Everyone is different and some things might work for him that don't for others. I think it's particuarly important to assess each person on a case by case basis.
e.g. you dont want a quarterback or wide-reciever , someone that needs to be fast and agile that weighs 300 pounds.

i think that any compound exercise and olympic lifts would be beneficialy for ALL football players. Our coach had everyone on the team doing bench, squat, farmers walks, box jumps, power cleans, and deadlifts among other things. All of these will help with strength, power, agility, and explosive ness - which every single postition needs.
