Is anyone else tired of the traditional bodybuilding class structure based upon weight and age that benefit shorter athletes? As a tall white guy, I have decided that I will never have a 50" chest and a 29" waist. This is the only time in my life that I wish I were a short black man! If you can relate then I have a solution. I have come across a male body proportion formula called the Grecian Ideal. It is based upon the great statues from the Greek masters that sculpted Hercules, Poseidon, Atlas etc. It uses a mathematical proportion beginning with your wrist circumference. This is the formula:
Wrist******************W ” (W= Your wrist circumference)
Chest******************6.5 X W
Waist******************4.54 X W
Hips*******************5.52 X W
Biceps*****************2.34 X W
Forearm****************1.88 X W
Thigh******************3.44 X W
Calf*******************2.21 X W
Neck*******************2.4 X W
Here is the ideal example for a guy my size and my actual measurements. I am 6'2" 225lbs at 10% BF
Ideal
Wrist***********7.5”
Chest**********48.7”
Waist**********34.1”
Hips***********41.4”
Biceps*********17.5”
Forearm********14.1”
Thigh**********25.8”
Calf***********16.6”
Neck**********18.0”
My Measurements
Wrist**********7.5”
Chest*********47.7”
Waist*********36.0”
Hips**********41.0”
Biceps********17.2”
Forearm*******13.5”
Thigh*********25.5”
Calf**********16.0”
Neck*********18.0”
Imagine a contest were they deduct points based upon deviation for the ideal measurement. You have a 29” waist? That’ll cost ya 4 points, Arms too big for your wrists? 5 point deduction. Condition will still matter but only after proportion has been calculated.
There is an online calculator at http://www.sandowmuseum.com/ideal.html if you are interested in playing with your own measurements.
