    Bodybuilding and genetics

Hey there, just wondering whats all your opinions on how fare genetics can take you and how long until they separate you from the average person. I ask this because i have plenty of friends that work hard and eat good and alot but seem to not grow alot but on the other hand i know people that are 18 and are 225 with a ripped 6 pack and was wondering, is this a classic case of good genetics vs. average genetics or just steroid use lol.

That's a hard question to answer. Sure, genetics play a big role. When you get into the realm of gear the genetic response to gear plays an even bigger role.

Some people just have really good genetics to begin with. I'm reading this book called "Arnold: The Education of a Bodybuilder" and he said that the reason people noticed him at the gym initially when he was a teenager was partially his natural strength and also he had a much faster recovery time than most people. This might have been due to his age at the time, but I think most people seem to think he was pretty gifted genetically as well. I'm not really sure when Arnold started to use steroids , but one of his best friends as a teenager was a weightlifting doctor so he might have gotten on them pretty early.

It's a fun book to read but hardly practical at all. Very few people other than Arnold could get away with training like he lays out in that book without severe injury. Equally important, if Arnold trained like that today he would get destroyed on stage. Anyway, no one knows for sure when he started using steroids , I'd say when he was around 17yrs old when he really started getting into bodybuilding. A lot of people like to pretend he barely used steroids - it makes people feel better for some reason - but he used a lot just like everyone. The idea of a tiny bit of primo and dbol is kind of cute, lol
