File Sharing Programs won't connect....none of them

Hoping someone can help with this.

    I can't get:

    Lime Wire
    Azurus
    Utorrent

    To connect to the internet.

    None of them.

I've messed with the amount of uploaders, everything I could google.

I do get a few emails here and there from my ISP about piracy. I was thinking maybe they could some how disconnect me when I startup file sharing software?

Cause it not only won't connect, I loose connection.

Using Cable ISP, no router, modem strait to the PC. Only firewall is Windows XP one.

Running AVG and windows defender then.

    Thanks for any help!!!

    This can be a pain.
your ISP wont see ( they can see you , but they dont have the man power to check on all computers) you 'connecting" , it "may" get alerted if they see you downloading Gigs of data. Normally they will thottle your service back until it is back to "normal" limits. Actually , I am sure they have limits on all their customers, unless you pay a premium to increase your download speed.

    What to do,
I suggest turning your programs off, dont remove any programs, just shut them off.

Turn off your firewall ( You can also configure your firewall to allow the P2P program to run, but you have to know which port it is running and blah blah )
try to connect, if you can , start downloading all you can
    If you cant
turn off the next program and so on...

But more important then this, if this is your only computer in your house , I would not use it for file sharing programs ( P2P ) , you -will- get a virus etc.
i would suggest running P2P programs on stand-alone computers in a DMZ, if you get a virus it will not spread to other computers and you wont lose anything from your computer.

Just get ready to re-image your box. Either way!
i re-image my file sharing computer monthly, due to all the virus's i download.
    I would say I get 1 bad virus for every 1000 movies/songs I download.

    my ISP is Charter Communications.

I don't download a lot, just a movie here and there to watch on the PC when I go to bed, a few songs at a time. Never really anything more than 2 movies at a time.

    I have 5 meg service.

I loose connection, and I don't gain it back, until i restart my PC.

Has to be a firewall or you have the port closed.
