Just buy any empty external harddrive enclosure that catches your eye, get any size western digital internal hd or samsung one and stick it in it. Done

    seagates are great

but I like the idea of the enclosures

If the external breaks and you need your data your gonna have to break the casing open to get it which voids the warranty so no new one

with the enclosure you can easily open it and secondly internal hdds are cheaper than external hdds

so if(or I should say when) it does fail you can buy one for cheaper

get a hard drive enclosure thats both sata and ide compatible.. then buy either a sata or ide drive. whats nice about this is you can use both hard drive interfaces. if you buy another hard drive down the road, just swap the hard drives.

The new systems are portable solid state drives. no moving parts. no worries about the hard drive screwing up 5 months down the road.

Have you considered just getting a big usb flash drive. they are solid state too.

I know this was a dead post, but thought I'd mention that you can build your own portable hard-drives very easily. I had a laptop which a faulty mobo burned up. Pulled the 500 gig hd out and tossed it in a case. Hard-drive cases are very cheap. I paid about $10 for an alluminum one, and was able to save a hard-drive.
