Wasn't sure which thread to reply to but here goes. GI of Whole Grain pasta=45, Brown Rice=55. I'd say it's an OK replacement.
I cut with whole grain multigrain pasta as my PWO!!! The trick is finding a sauce to put on it. Ive been using a marinera with 3g of sugar so im sure its not messing me up THAT much. Or you can get some fat free italian and that tastes pretty good.
i eat da shit outta it whether bulkin or cuttin!
But taiboxa loves big hairy men so don't take anything he says to heart cuz whole grain pasta isn't the only thing he eats....Originally Posted by taiboxa
I take it your not putting sauce on this pasta ? if so, viable option .. if your saucin it up then I would think you can answer that question..Originally Posted by rastling1
Any good recipes? I've never ate much of it but wouldn't mind having something different post workout. Lately it's been oatmeal, but wouldn't mind have some pasta.

I make a really basic tomato sauce; I don't buy any pre-made stuff.
I use a can of tomatoes (diced) and a can of tomato sauce (just the plain stuff with nothing added (ie: sugar)). Then I throw in some spices (usually just an italian spice mix), some garlic and some salt and pepper.
I add in 300-400g meat (I've been using lean ground beef that I first boil in water then rinse with hot water. Then I add it to the tomato sauce and spices). Simmer and throw throw the sauce over some whole wheat noodles.
That's what I've been using as a PPWO meal instead of chicken and oatmeal.
Hope this helps.
Love whole wheat pasta, but I am not cutting for anything. Organic Salsa is also a decent thing to put on pasta. You can find some with little sugar. The organic section is your friend.
Am getting a bit bored of brown rice, so i picked up some wholewheat pasta. Not sure if it's suitable for cutting tho?
Ingredients: Stoneground durum whole wheat semolina
Any good?
how many grams of fibers is it in it per 100grams?
10g of fiber per 100g bro.
that sounds pretty good. Should be good to use![]()
Cool. I thought it would of been crap.Originally Posted by johan
Only problem now is calculating how to get it equal to half a cup of brown rice. Any ideas?
rice and pasta has roughly equal % of carbs in them. If you used 100g rice before just replace it with 100g pasta. Should not be more than 5-8grams of carbs in difference.
Do you guys in the UK use the metric system for all food messurements? Or do you use those wierd ass american values??
I always just use 1 cup, half cup, etc. I do have electronic scales thoughOriginally Posted by johan

i compared 1/2 cup of my brown rice to the serving size of of whole weat pasta (3/4 cup) and it was relatively the same. i just compare labels... this might be a bad way to do things but its worked for me
hawk not a bad way at all since they have practicly the same GI.
Brown rice has more minerals though.
"House" brand Tofu Shirataki Noodles rock!
8 oz=40 calories
1 gram fat
0 cholesterol
Sodium 15 mg
Protein 2 grams
Sugar 0
Fiber 4 grams
This is the only brand of Shirataki noodles that are good, the others have no substance to them (like you have a fav pasta brand) same with this. I posted a recipe that you might like "Yaki Soba" I have seen people put spaghetti sauce on these noodles, but I have yet to try that.
Also adding the Mushroom flavored Soysauce (Healthy Boy Brand) on ground turkey/ground chicken really makes a huge dif/nice change. (low sodium/mild flavor) Also adding Kikkoman Brand sweet cooking wine (Saki) to any meat gives great taste.
Be sure and drain water off of noodles and parboil a couple of minutes before use) directions on package!
Someone try and work this one out. I bought some whole wheat pasta a few weeks ago (2 bags) and now finished them. I bought some more from the supermarket, EXACTLY the same stuff, but instead of it saying 10grams of fibre per 100g (as it did say), it now says 1.8grams of fibre per 100g!?!?! I bought 2 bags of it and the other says exactly the same. How can it go from 10g to 1.8g? Everything is exactly the same on the bag except under 'ingredients' it now says:
Old bag: Stoneground durem whole wheat semolina
New bag: Whole wheat semolina

whole wheat pasta is great, very similar to rice. I make my own pasta sauce, too, less sugar
bump.
