Gain Lean Muscle, Cut Up, Lose Fat?

I was just thinking, lets say somebody is a relatively massive guy...definately has a lot of muscle but has layers of fat..basically a mesomorph. If that guy was lets say 250, and he ate just to maintenance, with more healthy ratios of macros wouldn't he stay the same size while losing fat and replacing that with new muscle growth? think eating maintenance and doing a 40/40/20 ratio.

Depends on his experience in weights/cardio/etc.

More advanced fitness enthusiasts and BB'ers would have a much harder time and should decide to "cut" or "bulk", while rookies and those new to the game can usually lose fat while gaining lean mass, thus acquiring a body composition change for the better.

Cant just look at it like that, there are too many other factors. Ones lifestyle will have a huge impact on their goals. Whatever he burns throughout the day with his extracurricular activites will lead to burning more calories. If he's not training properly he can be burning muscle as his calories.

I understand where you're going with this but Proper training will still be huge here in order to answer this question. Cant give a definite yes or no to this.

When I make menus for people I use their maintenance as a guideline to follow. Even if their eating their exact maintenance but live a very active life and dont work out properly they can lose muscle which in return will be your most powerful fat burner.

Gotta be in an energy deficit to lose weight. No matter how you slice it or word it. If you say eat at maintenance then you mean at the end of the day you are par for the course. You will not gain muscle or loose fat. You will maintain. You need to decide one or the other.
