Quark is also a favourite of mine before bedtime with some Fats for slower release.
I used to loathe cottage cheese, but made myself eat it because it's such a good, portable protien source. It was the sweetness of it that I hated so much, ( I really dont like a lot of "sweet" tasting things). The only way I could eat it was covered in pepper. Black pepper.
a lot of people say whey before bed, but i don't advocate this at all, it is such a quick digesting protein that it wouldn't make it through most peoples' 8 hours of sleep.
JA, any whole food source with some added fat to aid in slowing digestion would be a fine substitute... maybe throw in some plain yogurt, or some low carb yogurt, that might help too.

try eating cottage cheese with splenda on it, I know it doesnt sound to hot, but it tastes damn good. Its my candy, its the only sweet thing i eat except my after workout shake which is protein and dextrose.
