??? Losing Nutrients Due To Flatulation ???
I searched a little in the forums before posting so no attitude please if my answer could be found elsewhere... Just maybe a nice link and a smiley face. Thnx
I eat about 8 egg whites per day and have about 3 Protein Shakes a day as well. Both of which give me the farts like you wouldn't believe. Now I dont have a problem with the farts themselves... Its the question as to wether or not my digestive problem is hindering any nutrient absorbtion. I say this because I am also on the toilet quite often as well... no loose or hard stool ... Just the regular shlt (pun intended). Any help is much appreciated...

i know exactly what you're talking about bro. i used to get gas like you wouldn't believe from my pwo shakes. you need to get digestive enzymes to help break down the nutrients your taking in. if you take in milk as well, might want to try milk digestive enzymes.
ever since i started taking the enzymes, my gas has been much better. you have to take the multi kind though and the milk one specifically for milk or else they don't help. certain enzymes break down certain things, but between the two of those, that should help.

you aren't losing anything in terms of nutritional value from farting. it is actually a sign of good health, and proper nutrition.

no, you don't loose nutrients in farts. i think everyone here has experience some really bad gas from all the protein we take in

as far as your comment "derek7m", you know us all too well, lol. there have been points where i could clear a whole room in minutes and keep it that way for hours. maybe shouldn't be proud of it, but now that they're not so bad, it's amusing to look back and laugh about how bad it was.
to answer your question "stunt954", the enzymes i use i got from vitamin world. ones called "milk digestant", the other "multi enzyme formula". they're pretty reasonably priced and they greatly reduced the amount and even moreso the smell of my gas. not sure which one worked or if both are needed though, cause i started both at the same time and haven't experimented yet myself cause i'm not too anxious to get that "unfresh sewer smell" emanating from my rear-side again. you could probably find similar enzymes on some of the websites around (like this sites sponsor), possibly for even cheaper than at vitamin world.
only bad side is the enzymes didn't dramatically reduce the bloat i get from my protein shakes with the milk in them. i think "steve80" might have something there with tossing out the milk and replacing it with other things. the casein protein in it just gets digested too slow, leaving it sit in your stomach/intestines for quite some time taking up space, hence the bloat. i'm switching over tomorrow, so i'll let you know how it works for me.Last edited by ascendant; 04-09-2006 at 12:43 AM.

Dude, even with water in my shakes my dorm needs to be de-stinkified for hours at a time. Im convinced next semester I will buy and Ionizer and just fart into it whenever needed.

well, did my 2 shakes today with water instead of milk and avoided casein containing products today. the bloat wasn't as bad (though the nausea was), and though i didn't use the enzymes, my gas was bad, but not as bad as when i'd drink milk.
- seems as if the milk makes gas worse, but isn't the cause of it.
- does seem milk causes more bloat though, as now today i only had to deal with nausea on my bulking and not so much bloat.
- finally, think the enzymes for big shakes and huge meals definitely helps reduce the gas, and i don't see much of anything else helping it at this point, so i'm sticking with them, particularly with my pwo meal which makes my gas the worst.

I'm not even going to read this whole thread but i'll guess you use milk or some form of milk, try using water in your shakes instead, its not the egg whites.

thats why i like optimum nutrition whey protein shakes...already loaded with digestive enzymes and aminogen and is mostly whey protein isolate...or you could go with isopure since it has no milk sugars.

seeds and lots of them. To each meal(and shake) chug down a handfull of psyllium and flax seeds. Since I started doing that I dont fart nearly as much. The psyllium seeds cleans out the digestive track real good.
