Question What type of vegetables and when?

My diet is severely lacking in veggies.... did a search with no real good results.

    I am cutting.

What type of veggies are the best (i.e. avoid carrots perhaps because high g.i.)?

Where is appropriate to place these veggies? With pro/fat or pro/carb?

    Thanks for any help.

I eat brocoli and coliflower all the time with my meals, they act as a filler. Don't think it matters what kind of meal you eat them with - correct me if i'm wrong.

Im no expert but I eat my vegies at night with my 4oz of chicken. I take in 3 cups salad or veges. Brocolli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, string beans.

the more of a variety, the better. i personally do salads with mixed organic greens and spinach. i also usually make myself a juiced mix of celery, carrots, lime, and ginger at night. a juicer is a great way to take down a combo of veggies that you wouldn't normally eat, but in the juice form mixed with other stuff tastes alright.

as far as concerns about things like carrots because of the high GI, there's no need to be concerned about that. natural fruits and veggies don't cause the same kind of insulin spike that most carbs cause, so even if they're high on the GI, as long as you take in your protein beforehand or at least along with it to help slow digestion, you're good to go.

    sweet.... that's a good explanation.

So veggies are good to go with every meal pro/fat and pro/carb?

How do tomatoes fit into the picture... technically they are a fruit... but I've been wanting to utilize more homemade salsa... can this also be with both pro/fat meals and pro/carb?

Where I am concerned is that you say "natural fruits and veggies don't cause the same kind of insulin spike that most carbs cause" however, I previously assumed it would be a bad idea to throw a banana in my pro/fat meal (at least while cutting)?

    Is this contradictory?

Okay, continued searching around. This is a quote from SC:

If you are eating "mixed" veggies, my guess is they have corn/carrots/peas, or at least one of them.

Any one of those can up the carb content a lot per serving, as they contain a lot of sugar and little to NO fiber.

A staple of mine is a big rib eye/t-bone/top sirloin/or N.Y. steak with green beans.

    Perfecto!

So this is where my confusion stems...

Some veggies seem okay, others seem not so good for cutting. I look at the nutrition info, but it can be misleading.

    Any more input...

    In particular:
    Cauliflower
    Broccoli
    Spinach
    Pepper
    Tomatoes
    Onion

But now that I have a steamer, I'm down to try whatever...

raw carrots have a GI of 50...cooked brings it up to 100.....i usually go with the ones you just listed above me when cutting for a show.

they are ok. I seem to remember that peppers has a bit more carbs though but aslong as you dont go wild on them.

    Raw carrots are ok aswell.

johan.... you agree they are okay with every meal, no matter pro/fat, pro/carb, pwo, ppwo?

Sorry, just trying to nail down the specifics, cause I'm so damn nitpicky about everything else in my diet....

yeah any meal. most veggies(except peas or cooked carrots for instance) are so high in fiber and so low in carbs that they have negligible effects.

    There we go.... thanks johan.

So I'll semi-avoid carrots and cooked peas....

Any other ones to watch out for?

I guess I'ma start putting salsa on EVERYTHING... I love my homemade stuff.
