    Recommended Reading???

I was wondering if any of you could recommend a few good books, I could pick up to increase my nutritional knowledge base. Over the last few years, I have been cleaning up my diet step by step. Starting from basic things like cutting out fast food and eating smaller meals 5 to 6 times a day. I know find myself avoiding things that 2 years ago I thought were healthy like protein bars. At the time, it was a great start for me to put down the candy bar and pick up a Cliff Bar. I consistently find diet evolving and I have learned a lot from this site. I am looking for some books to help me understand the science behind eating and body building. I would like to learn more about things like carb cycling, insulin spikes, pairing protein/carb meals and protein/fat meals…
    Thanks for all your help!

I have been curious to this as well.... a book that jives with the ideas presented on this site perhaps because mainstream dieting tends not to be for the BB....

well, i doubt you'd be able to find all that in just one book, but good to see you know exactly what you're looking for.

as far as eating better and understanding exactly what you're putting into your body, some reading i would highly recommend is "natural cures 'they' don't want you to know about" by Kevin Trudeau. a lot of people had suggested his book to me and i kind of blew it off for a long time, then finally sacked it up and bought the book (what can i say, it was on sale 50% off).

his book focuses on food additives, what to avoid, what to look for, and though some of it you might already know, much of it will blow you away. i've studied diet and nutrition for a long time now between my personal interests and bodybuilding, but we oftentimes take for granted that we're pumping garbage into ourselves everyday that can be hindering our gains. perfect examples of things that are horrible for us that many people take in on a daily basis is aspartame and hydrogenated oils. his book goes much deeper than that though, and you'll be surprised as to how many things you eat now that are unquestionably hindering your gains.

best advice i can give you is go to a bookstore to look at books before you buy. i don't know of any exact books on insulin spikes and the like, but i'm sure if you look in certain sections of the store, you'll find plenty of books on what you're looking for.

IMO the best book you could read would be a introductionary university textbook on nutrition. They are not very hard to read and that info is solid and 100% empiricaly verified.
All the personal trainer books are tainted with there own views. Why not get the info from the same place as them and make up your own mind?

Offcourse the downside is that the textbook is bound to be very unspecific for our needs. But a general knoweledge on nutrition goes a long way into understanding what the point is of several strategies.

When I get time Il have to dig down in some nutrition textbooks books because I hate to know what works without knowing why it works.

Johan I agree with your point about the personal views being stuck in there...But you can decide for yourself what is subjective and fact, also what makes his book so great, is he puts to rest SO MANY myths about nurtition and exercise, every chapter is titled "Carol the Calorie Counter" and "Chris the Cardio Freak" etc...
