Noob diet question
A little background first:
I am 6 foot and about 255lbs. About 9 months ago I was 285 and I started a weight training program. I did not do any cardio for that time and was not really good about my diet. I still lost 30lbs but I think I still need to loose another 50.
I am now doing 45 minutes of cardio 5 days a week and weight training 2 days. The off days are the days right after my workouts. I am doing a circuit training workout thing. Its like 5-7 different exercises right after each other. It is also supervised by a personal trainer (I traded graphics work and photography)
My diet consists of about 1500 calories in small meals. Its pretty much this:
9:30 Bagel with Cream cheese
Coffee 2 creamers and splenda
11:30 Salad with romaine lettuce, cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, feta cheese and balsamic vinegar
2:30 Healthy Choice Meal (under 300 calories)
5:30 Healthy Choice Meal (under 300 calories)
6:30 Power bar (350 calories)
I try and drink about 4 1 quart bottles of watter a day.
Any advice is appreciated.Last edited by jaded996; 05-12-2006 at 12:52 PM.

jaded, welcome to the board. you will learn a lot here. another question i have is what is your estimated bf%? or if you know it...
6 feet tall and 255 and only eating 1500 cals a day seems extreme. are you obese? not trying to sound like an ass. but does your personal trainer know about this severly restriced diet you're on? if he is i would maybe reconsider who's helping you out.

Jaded go out and buy the book "Body For Life" by Bill Phillips. Its a great way to learn alot about nutrition and will give you a base to start tweaking the diet from.Dont buy the cookbook "eating for life" as thats a waste of money IMO.
I know Im going against the group here by saying that the Healthy Choice Meals arent bad. They are great when your just starting out!!Thats when your just "starting" out.The ingredients are real foods.
The reason I say this is that while the protein/carb/fat ratios arent bad, they arent optimal. The fact that the protein is being counted from carb foods is what makes it not that good when you have built some muscle and your protein requierments start rising. You want complete proteins and not protein from pasta or rice.Plus the fat is high and its not good to mix fat with carbs in meals.

I try to eat 6 meals a day of 300 calories and this is working out great for me.When in a bind ill eat a Healthy choice meal as it fits right in.Ive also eaten a Mcdonalds cheeseburger thats at 300 calories too.But the majority of my meals I want 150calories of a complete protein.
A normal meal of mine would be 4oz ground turkey and 4oz yam OR 5oz burger squeenzed of fat and two slices good fiber rich bread.

these healthy choice meals are in fact good for a new dieter. it is easy to keep calories in order and figure out a good number of calories needed to provide constant energy. with teh knowledge you will gain from this board, you will become better equipped every day on how to create/maintain/and utliize a diet of your own. if you have any questions, feel free to post, but first use the search function, as most questions you have i would venture to guess have already been discussed.
