    Too Much Protien?

I am currently trying to base my diet on the cutting sticky.I have been trying to get between 40 and 50 grams of protien per meal.I am roughly around 280gms.per day.My Lean Body Mass is 189.Am I getting too much protien or should I cut it down closer to my LBM?Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanx

For a cutting diet that's about right I would say, anywhere from 1.5 to 2 grams of protein per lb. of LEAN mass.

Any thoughts on excess protein being broken down and used as energy insated of fat during a cutitng diet...i have often thought it might happen but dunno for sure...

If you eat too much protein and not enough other macros (carbs/fats) then you will use some of it as energy instead of repair.

so as long as he or anyone is getting the carbs and efa they need excess protein should not be a problem, or get stored as fat...right?

When one of y'all have the time - this was one part which I've seen mixed answers for and never fully understood :

calculate macros in relation to LEAN BODY MASS (LBM) VS TOTAL BODY WEIGHT (TBW)....

    * are all macro ranges (carbs/pro/fat) calculated in respect to LBM?

    * I've seen other articles that guage and calculate carbs and protein to Total Body Weight, and calculate fat in respect to lean body mass...

    * Are there any benefits or instances when we would calculate particular macros in respect to only one or a combo of both?

I'm not looking for ranges, more so on whether either (TBW/LBM) are used or solely just LBM for everything. Besides the fact that LBM is your weight minus your BF% and that we're not here to feed the "fat..." per se - It would be greatly appreciated if someone could answer this....

    * note this was one part of the write-up that I made previously here on AR, that I wanted to share and edit in that post.

I would go from LBM for all macros.... if you are cutting you are only trying to supply nutrients to what you want to keep

Think about TBM applications in the extreme cases of morbidly obese individuals...even though they are 500 lbs. you know instinctively that they don't need to consume enough cals to feed 500 lbs. of flesh

Thanks for your reply FromFleshtoSteel - it makes sense... so if you were to lean bulk, would you just add a few extra pounds to a theoretical LBM goal (say a few pounds (i.e. 2.5-10lbs) at a time and go from there?

Meaning for myself, 5'6 - 27male, 13% BF still bulking - ~133 lbs LBM - *IF* I was to cut (which I'm not) as you mentioned adjust in respect to that amount.

In my current case - if I am continuing to lean bulk, and my long term goal (3-4 months) was lets say, 143 lbs LBM just calculate in respect to the LBM goal (or just in small increments of 2-3lbs as progress continues?)

    Smile

I recently tried a short lean bulk by adding extra protein (went from 210g/day up to 275g/day) and only adjusting PWO carbs to match the increased protein intake. I adjusted protein consumption more so than anything with respect to the LBM but I had pretty good success with gaining very lean. I don't think you will see gains fast enough if you only increase in super small increments. You are going to put on a little extra fat when you bulk so the goal is to just try to minimize this.... some cardio will go along way in helping

I went from a cut and being hypocaloric to being either at or only slightly above maintenance. The best thing I can say is to try upping one thing at a time, give it a week or two to see how you are adjusting to it, and then assess from there. Everyone is different. I know that if I did a traditional bulk, I would gain fat at an incredible rate, due simply to trial and error and the way that I know my body handles extra intake. Find out what works for you, use the cutting/bulking sticky for basic guidelines and as a jump off point for your modifications.
