thats a great read, gonna have to read it again though......
Interesting read...
Great read. But in the end, if you follow good ol' fashion whey protein as your source of shakes, wouldn't adding 5 grams of glutamine with say 50 gms of protein(shake) before and after a workout satisfy this??? (in a nutshell)
Usually whey protein has a ton of glutamine peptides in it already.
I'd save your $$.

yea...kinda figured. Everyone has mixed views about adding extra glutamine to the shakes.Quote:

Bump for naeem
For the last week I have been having a preWO whey, oats, dex shake about 20 minutes before. And then PWO I have a whey/dex shake. I have been having great pumps and alot of energy during the workouts. Prior to this I was having a Pro/Fat meal a few hours before and I was very lethargic and tired during the workout.
I also feel as though my muscles are fuller throughout the day.
veryveryquiet, I guess I don't understand why you consume dex with your whey and oats prior to your workout?
Have no idea, but I'd never do that personally.

Agreed.
Window myth it not a myth IMO. Simple carbs and protein at 3:1 ratio used to be a good rule. Good info in this thread though
Just trying something else what I was doing wasn't working, I figured the dex would provide energy for the workout immediately, and the oats would sustain without me crashing. Sounds like an idiotic assumption on my part judging from the responses. Please enlighten I'm no expert for sure!
Well I was just curious, never heard of this approach before. I'll let swole chime in but I always understood that low GI carbs Pre work out were best because the slow acting carbs will give you energy for your workout. PWO have your high GI to let your muscles recover etc. But if its working for you...Great!! I was just curious as to your approach.
Might make me fat too! LOL
I might try lo GI only and see if there is any difference.
I think it really depends on your goals. If you are looking to gain size and strength, than a high GI meal after a workout would keep muscles full and stimulate growth. However if you were looking to get absolutely shredded, than eating before your workout would make more sense. Since the primary fuel for anaerobic exercise i.e. weightlifting is carbohydrates, you would fill up your muscles with glucose so your workout is strong, but then use the carbs up during the workout and go back to a relative state of ketosis, or at least have an empty stomach so that you started burning fat again.

It might seem logical that it should be like that. But in reality you get no more growth from high GI than low GI.Quote:
