Late Night Workouts - Carbs PWO Still??

Lately with work I haven't been able to get to the gym till after 8pm... sometimes as late at 9 or 9:30pm to lift...

Do you guys that lift this late still take in carbs after your workout at 10 or 11pm when you get home?

I usually have to scarf down my PWO shake and meal and hit the sack to get up at 6am for work again...

Lately I have cut down the PWO carbs to a piece of wheat bread with some sugar free jelly on it because it's so late at night...

yes you still need proper nutrution(ie:carbs/protein) for proper recovery.....its not necessarily gonna turn to fat...eat what carbs you would have for your PWO and PPWO meals regularly

you should be eating low GI carbs anyway, so these are not bad before bed in any way. if you are concerned with needing some kind of fat, wake up half way through the night and have a shake with flax or have some nattypeanut butter. but the carbs are not going to be an issue.

I was always under the impresion that fast acting carbs like white bread were more use than low gi carbs after weight training as the body changes its prioritys and uses them to shuttle protein straight to the muscles. Is this not true then?

read the many threads on this issue. some use them some don't. but if i may ask you a question... if they shuttle protein to the muscles then why would you question using them?

Johan recently started a thread stating that muscle protein synthesis is greater consuming protein/carb prior to working out. It should be one of the newer threads started by Johan. Check it out for more detail (studies)

yeah and i posted too that it is better to have pro/carb before, aminos before...then aminos after and a pro/carb meal.

protein and carbs are needed after a wrkout regardless of what time it is. its NOW time for your body.

    Thanks guys...

I was just curious because I noticed that I feel a lot more bloated when I wake up in the morninngs lately since I've been forced to late workouts...
