Typically I'll have a preworkout shake. Oats and whey. When I was cutting I would have 40g whey and 1/2 cup of oats (27g carbs). I'm thinking of having a solid meal now and just limiting shakes to PWO only.
For the most part, I would get a lean protein source and a low glycemic carb in you anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour before your training. I noticed I would have MUCH more energy and strength/endurance during a training session when I had a pro/carb meal beforehand (which should actually be obvious to most)
