Question Whey or Soy Protein Shake? Poll.

    Which do you prefer?

Personally I like whey over soy.

I heard soy imitates estrogen so I stay away from it.

    soy shakes tastes like flour.

But I use it because its dirt cheap and I have never noticed any difference whatsoever betwen the two. Whey has a better suited amino acid profile for humans but that doesnt matter anyway unless you strictly live on the protein powder

the whole estrogen thing is just overblown. It has some slight effects on hormones but nothing even noticable.

Both whey and soy has some interesting things going for them. Whey for instance protects against and helps to heal ulcers and soy lowers cholesterol and lower risk of prostate cancer.

Whey is also packed with minerals.

Preferably I want both in my diet.

If I had to pic one and money wasnt a issue I would go with whey though.

So do you mix a blend for your PWO shake?

nah right now I only use soy. for most of my spring I only used whey because I got ahold of 15kg of whey for practicly nothing and had to make sure I consumed everything before it went bad.

if I had both at home I would use whey pwo and a blend on all other occasions.

it depends on what type of measuring you use.

PDCAAS gives it a score of 1.0 and that is the higest score possible
PER and BV ranks it lower but I are mostly for PDCAAS because it seems to be the best method.

here is some info on PDCAAS and PER

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PDCAAS

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protein_efficiency_ratio

Overall the difference in quality betwen whey, or casein or soy or meat or eggs ect doesnt realy matter. Aslong as your getting protein through other sources in your diet. But what a PDCAAS score of 1 say is that the protein source contains everything that a human need. In that sense soy protein is of higher quality than meat for instance.

What realy cracks me up is all the protein adds in mags. "our protein is 500% more bioaviable than any other" blah blah blah. What they fail to mention is if that even mattered regular meat would be horrible for muscle building
