    Avoiding cardio catabolism?

So, after having performed morning cardio on an empty stomach, one should wait about 45 minutes before having the P/C meal - this to maximize fat burning. Will it (the fact that you've gone a whole night + about 2 hours awake without food) not also tend to be very catabolic? How does one prevent muscle catabolism from occurring when using this method?

Your last meal of the day should be a pro/fat shortly before bed. Most people sleep 6-8 hours then wake up and do their cardio ASAP. By doing so your in a catabolic state for that time being. The amount of time after cardio and your p/c meal is debatable in my opinion. I drive home, shower then eat within 20 minutes and I haven't had any setbacks. Some people wait 30-45 min but I'm too hungry and need food.

45 min is too long. I wait 15-20min no more

Don't bcaa's contain calories? Will they therefore not hamper the fat burning process? Or would the amount (of kcals) be virtually negligible in proportion to how well it (bcaa) prevents muscle tissue breakdown?

you answered your own question about the BCAA's... as far as waiting I have never done that... as soon as I get home in the morning I'm making my egg whites and oatmeal... when I competed It would get to the point where I would almost be salivating thinking about getting home and eating my egg whites...they started to be my favorite meal of the day.. I would use fat free butter spray/salt/pepper and texas pete... I use to watch the clock..I would take down 15 egg whites in literally 4 minutes or less.... never affected me getting shredded.

What would be most beneficial - bcaa's or glutamine?

Can you afford both? If I HAD to pick between the two I would pick BCAA's....there are plenty of supplement sites out there where you can get stuff very cheap...

Heh, now I'll never stop pestering you. What would be a good combination dosage as opposed to taking only one of them?

I'd shoot for 15grams per day BCAA's and try to get between 25-40 grams glutamine.... My favorite BCAA's has always been twin lab Amino fuel... liquid.

Yep, I believe it's totally catabolic and thats why I dont even **** with am cardio. It's also over rated like a mofo, everybody on the boards swears by am cardio but I know plenty of great athletes as well as nationals competitors who NEVER do am cardio for this very reason. I believe it may be beneficial to somebody who is extremely overweight, but not bodybuilders who are trying to maintain muscle and lose fat at the same time. I do my cardio PWO, then go eat. Everybody will jump down your throat about this saying "What about your dextrose/whey shake timing after you train, what about your PWO recovery shake?? blah blah blah blah, blah blah ,blah blah. Well guess what? If your cutting you shouldnt be consuming any sugars anyways.

SS, this topic has been beaten to death..i for one can not get away with anything but am cardio and i never lost any muscle last time and dropped from 282lbs to 227lbs in 8 weeks...while some can do the same doing pm cardio only, i cannot...I believe iyt is a personal thing and needs to be determined by the person, and there is no right and wrong answer to this question, steps can be taken yto stay anti-catabolic before am cardio and that is essential to doing it right...

here is a like to about 6 pages of arguments from a bunch of us on the topic, skim it over and see what you think

yes, for some it must work. And there are ways to combat muscle loss such as taking glutamine and amino acids, but my main point is people are making it out to be the "best way" and thats not necessarily true for everybody. For myself, getting up an extra hr-2 earlier for am cardio and a post cardio meal would be detrimental. First off, most of our fat burning takes place in our sleep. It's hard enough to sleep good on a low calorie diet anyways, now I have to cut what little sleep I do get down just to do morning cardio, then go back to the gym later that night. I benefit from everything done right then and there and getting extra rest, plus the extra rest helps my muscles recover faster, which is also haulted by strict dieting to a good degree. Alot of people doing morning cardio just look flat to me, ripped but flatter than a pancake(as also with carbs that are too low) But if it works for you then by all means keep doing it, I just add my input to these threads because inexperienced people are coming on here and thinking that they absolutely have to do it to see great results.
