Steel cut oats VS quaker quick oats

The nutritional facts are basically the same but I know the steel cut oats have a slightly less GI index. Anyone know how much?

Also would it make that much of a difference to switch from quaker oats to steel cut oats? Would actually make much of a difference in a strict cutting diet?

just watch the portions...I use quick pw only....also, quaker makes a really good weight watchers packet formula now...it does have maltodextrin in it, but only 1g of sugar.....switching to that pw...

are you guys talking about the 1 minute quick oats in the big cylinder or the quick oats (reduced sugar) in the packets?

So lets say I'm comparing the quick oats (big cylinder) to normal oats (big cylinder...steel oats i guess?); is the GI level in the normal oats less than the quick oats?

QUIT! It's minimal and dont worry about the little things....assuming you at it with another food source, it will have zero effect....eat whichever...just make them rolled or steel cut oats < 2g of sugar...done.

I am still looking for a GI index number to compare, steel cut oats are kinda hard to find and they take FOREVER to cook! But I know thats all Jay Cutler eats during pre-contest dieting......

Who here competes and uses quick oats for a competition diet?

it does matter. if effects you. i know i have to go with teh steel cut because teh instant bloats me and makes me feel liek crap. yes no difference (but one makes me hold water and feel uncomfortable and teh other doesn't). go with what makes you feel best after eating a big helping.

i never cook them by the way.

if you eat rolled oats raw, they wont bloat you as much...and when you say bloat, I'm assuming you mean the "feeling" of bloatness....right? They don't hold water, reason why pros and many others include them in the pre-contest diet.....I have a huge bowl cooked with oat bran in my second meal (in 3 meals total)...I mean huge...1 cup oats, 1/2 cup bran.....now that is filling!! esp. cooked in egg whites and skim, but really good with syrup and splenda!

pour water into steel cut, and then into instant and you'll see what i mean. and the instant make me feel like crap. so i stick with the steel.

but the bloating is a misconception...? Raw with splenda, rolled taste much better to me and more filling....1/2 cup steel = 1 cup of rolled calorie wise and fills me up for about an hour....

calories are the excat same with mine. and yes, raw with splenda. i know it doesn't make much sense, but the regular just bloat me. you would think that would be the same with all oats then, but i just got into the other and i haven't felt like that yet.

Still looking for a straight answer I used a google search and could find the GI index difference between the two. I am wondering if I would get better results by switching to steel cuts or if I wouldnt even notice it.

Quaker oats are bad? As in Quaker oats "Quick One Minute" or "Oldfashioned"?

    Huh

Well I just went out and bought 2lbs of steel cut oats....I figure if Cutler eats it precontest then it must be pretty good.

The steel cut oats taste so much better than regular oats! I love the texture.
I little cinnamon and splenda and it is awesome!
