I was wondering if the protein quality in oats was significant enough to add oats to your daily total protein intake. I know that vegetable protein isn't supposed to be included when coming up with your intake, so I wasn't sure if oats were the same. I decided to do a search on here with very little success, so i googled it and ended up searching it on wikipedia (yes.. wikipedia has a page for oats) There was a section on protein, and within that section read this:
Oat protein is nearly equivalent in quality to soy protein which has been shown by the World Health Organization to be the equal of meat, milk, and egg protein. The protein content of the hull-less oat kernel (groat) ranges from 12–24%, the highest among cereals. {Radomir Lasztity. 1999. The chemistry of oats. In: Cereal Chemistry. Akademiai Kiado(English)}
That brings up the question: do oats really have a nearly similar protein quality to meat and egg protein?
EDIT: forgot a word
