This is what I do and have done for almost 2 years now. I've never been happier.Originally Posted by bor

I've tried it but I prefer dextrose...
whats the difference between me having dex versus table sugar
dex while bulking, maybe. dex while cutting, no way.
I usually just throw a bunch of fruit in with my whey. Sometimes a whole banana, some blueberries, strawberries. If not I just have the shake with a banana and a bowl of oats with the berries. I dont see how that could go wrong.
i could be wrong but my understanding is that fruit and fructose fill liver glycogen but do not fill muscle glycogen. so the insulin spike is defeating itself by not filling the muscle with glycogen.I usually just throw a bunch of fruit in with my whey. fructose does not need to be transported to cells with the use of insulin, therefore fructose does not cause an insulin spike.
Fructose can have many harmfull effects on ones body. therefore it is better not to ingest large amounts of it.
Bananas contain a lot of starch btw.
you wont regret it. I havent noticed any difference at all from ditching dex.Originally Posted by bor
I can see the reasoning behind not using dex....
However, it seems like there would be another source of carb that would be better besides oats simply because oats contain a relatively high amount of fat and I thought fat was to be avoided at all costs PWO and PPWO.
Any explanations?
If you're eating 1 cup oats thats 6 g fat....you'll be fine bro.
brown rice would be fine too.
I like to use some Dex PWO right after training, not neccessairly at a 2:1 Pro:Carb ratio but at least 1:1, they are simple carbs and depending on the rest of your diet will not contribute significantly to fat gain. After a strenous workout and left depleated, some Dex PWO is helpful. I also believe how long after you can have a PWO meal if you cant have a meal within 1 hour then some Dex in definitly helpful
I dont use dex, but I will admit that I did like it for sure. I felt good using it but have not found reduced results not usign it either.
I like having gatorade sometimes with my amino cocktail PWO.
Agreed.Originally Posted by audis4
But 1 cup of oats is only 46 g of carbs (going off memory, correct me if I'm wrong).
My macros call for much more than that PWO as well as PPWO.
I agree about the brown rice... I was just curious to hear some people using oats... as I avoid them for both PWO and PPWO due to the fat.
Perhaps those that use oats are only using a cup or so, but it doesn't seem like much carbs.
Before I switched to dex, I did 1 cup oats (54g carbs) PWO and PPWO. I loved oats but I think dex works a bit better for me. You could do 1.5 cups oats PWO if your concerned about not having enough carbs PWO.
Apart from not feeling sluggish after drinking it, I always felt like a truck hit meOriginally Posted by johan
